How To Choose Artificial Plants Or Flowers For Your Kid's Room
One way of making a child conscious of the environment is to actually introduce him to the actual living things in his or her environment. Introducing artificial plants or flowers to you kid's immediate surroundings may seem trivial; but at the very least, the child develops awareness for them.
However much plant-life decorating you actually want to do now, it would be important to remember that this is a kid's room you are decorating. It is important to note safety hazards, especially when it comes to artificial plants or flowers. And no, Astroturf-ing your kid's space will not work at all. Here are some tips on how you can decorate your kid's room that will make both of you happy.
1. Consider that your kid needs his or her space to play and move about in. Try to keep your artificial vegetation to the minimum, especially for kids who are already extremely mobile, and love to explore. Large, potted plants may not be such a good idea here, as with those breakable vases and clay pots.
But you could always have your artificial plants or flowers hanging from the ceiling with woven baskets, or in pots encased in fabric baskets. You can get the flowers or plants that are cascading from their pots, if you will. Make sure though that the vegetation is not hanging low enough that your kid can actually dangle from this.
One more thing to consider with your hanging vegetation is that this would need routine cleaning or dusting. Decor like this is a magnet for dust, so you would need to keep this as clean as possible for your child.
2. Outside the room is also a good place to decorate. So, instead of focusing your attention on just decorating the interior, you should also try decorating the exterior space. A flower box outside the window sill would be a great way of teaching kids about growing things.
Try to choose the really interesting pieces in case your kids begin to ask. This way you can make this a learning experience for them as well. Or, if flower boxes are not really your (or your kid's) thing, you may want to consider other options for exterior decor.
Attaching climbing vines is another great option. You can choose either the flowering kind or the plain one. This can also be attached outside the window sill, with parts of it extending within the room itself.
Make sure though that the flower box stays stable and safe enough that your children won't actually fall out of the window. If you have the climbing vines, make sure that it won't sustain any weight at all or that these would be easily detached if anyone tugged on it. This is to make sure that your kid will not be able to climb out of the window; and that anyone else can not climb in.
3. Lastly, if you want to include artificial plants or flowers as part of your kid's learning experience, you can always have one or two medium sized rubber pots with rubber plants for him or her to play with. This kind of decor is quite resilient, easy to clean and does not contain sharp edges or corners. Make sure though that the parts are firmly glued together, and that there are no small pieces which your child can accidentally swallow.
