The other three lighting types refer to instances where the natural light cannot be used. Accentuating lights are those that cover for the lighting of a specific area only, as opposed to illuminating a wide area. General lighting is the opposite of this; for it refers to the illumination of the whole room through one type or one set of lights only. The task lighting pertains to lights under or in places that would not be reached by general lighting, but where a light source is needed for you to accomplish particular tasks. The table lamp can either be decorative or functional; that is why it can be accentuating or highlighting a task.
