Table Lamp: The Balance Of Appeal And Functionality
Light has always been an important part of the home. Without lights, we would have no guide to get us through the activities that we need to do at night, or in areas that are dim. The use of lights and lightings is wide-ranging. For any area in the home, we have a particular light within it, with a particular function. This may be for general lighting or task lighting, whichever way the light may be of most advantage. However, its not just because they are mainly functional does not mean that we could not use them for a more appealing or decorative purpose. There are types of lights and lighting nowadays that could either be mainly for decorativeness, mainly for functionality or a balance of both appeal and functionality. One of the types of light that I observe to be as wide-ranging in use as this is the table lamp.
The word lamp always evokes the idea of a light with a stand and shade for me. When I was younger, I thought that the lamp was a funny kind of light. I would take out its shade and think that it would not be very appealing without it. I also wondered how on earth it was supposed to be used, when it did not provide enough light to brighten the whole room in the darkness. The light coming from a lamp always had a very specific area with which it provided brightness, because the light source provided by the bulb in it was controlled by its shade. The particular lamp that I am talking about here is the table lamp.
Almost every home that I have been into boasts of at least one table lamp. Some homes cater to it mostly for its functionality as a light source; some homes cater to it mostly for its design that make it aesthetically appealing, and thus, a beautiful addition to the decor of the home. There are also others who have chosen carefully as to have both uses of the table lamp. For a wider idea on how best to choose a table lamp for your home, let us first explore its uses.
Its functional purpose.
The original use of a table lamp, being source of light, pertains to practicality. Although it can never be said that this kind of lamp is useful for general lighting, it is very much useful for task lighting or specific lighting. General lighting refers to the type of lighting that would encompass a general area of the room where the light is placed. An example of this type of light is the fluorescent bulb. Task lighting, on the other hand, refers to the type of lighting that caters to specific areas of a room for you to be able to better undertake your tasks. Specific lighting is similar to task lighting, except that this type of lighting does not necessarily have to guide you through tasks. The table lamp is good for specific lighting, and in some cases task lighting, because of its controlled amount light.
Its decorative purpose.
There are table lamps today that come in a variety of styles, designs and forms. This makes them good decorative pieces for the home. You could place a beautifully designed table lamp in, say, your living room where visitors would be able to appreciate its beauty and appeal.
You could use the table lamp for a more functional inclination or for a more decorative inclination. The table lamp is good for either way, if chosen carefully.
