Flooding And Your Wet Smelly Carpet

A carpet can get wet by several ways. The carpet that has turned wet by flood is a thing to watch out. Rains that look good in movies if continues for over a week, it starts overflowing the river and finally flooding the house. Water logged rooms naturally resulting in a wet carpet. Carpet also gets wet by leaking roof, busted pipes or overflowing sink.

Whatever is the reason for the water damage, wet carpet is not a good thing to happen and it is irritating and troublesome to get it restored. If you are really lucky enough then you can restore the carpet after few treatments, otherwise you have to shell out money in buying a new carpet. In case you have insured the house for water damage then you can claim the reimbursement amount and with the help of that money you can buy a brand new carpet. Anyways all these are undesirable activities and waste of time and energy.

Worse is the case with carpets that come with padding. Padding no doubt gives the cushioning affect and makes your feet feel good. They do look awesome and soft but if at it gets wet, then the hell breaks out. As it is carpets are costly and the ones with padding come with extra cost. When the carpet is left unattended in the water logged area, carpet becomes wet. Water enters into the different carpet fabric, padding making it to disintegrate. If carpet is not dried in time, the padding would come out and the glue keeping the threads in place goes out of use.

To avoid all these complications, try to act quickly once you see water seeping on to the carpet. Take out the carpet before mildew sets its eye on it. Microbes like molds and mildews love moist surface and they get attracted to the wet carpet. The mold attack on the carpet not only causes financial stress but also results in health problems. Mildew results in allergies like skin irritation, patches, rash, discoloration, swollen eyes and respiratory problems. Apart from that the place stinks and fills the room with a musty odor. If the wet carpet is not looked into on time, even after drying, the mold would leave stains and indelible marks.

There are some few simple ways to treat the wet carpet at home without much investment. After extracting the water, spread the carpet in a room with air conditioner at lowest setting. Dehumidify it and do not make the room warm. Wet vacuum the carpet and then clean it using a good quality shampoo. You can also treat it with borax. Try some cleansers available in the local store specifically made for cleaning wet carpet.

If you are not sure of handling the wet carpet or feel that it deserves a professional service, then contact the service centre without wasting time. Make sure that you select the company that is experienced in handling wet carpet and also get a second opinion. Watch out for their charges and pick a company that meets your budget and requirement. Wondering where from to get the contact address; as usual the internet gives you the location and all the details that you need. You can get a detailed list of companies and also look into their service and profile.
