Do It Yourself Decor

Your house is supposed to be the place where you can just chill after a day's work, not in some salon. And taking loads of work home with you is not really a good idea of chilling out. Just leave it in the office where it really should be in the first place.

A good idea of turning your house into a home is to decorate it. Now don't you start whining about the expenses. You have not even started reading the tips below that are compiled especially for you. And to make you even happier, the list only has one category - SAVE. Yes. No SPEND or SLURGE.

ART is usually the first thing that comes to mind when we think of the typical household adornments. It has to be a work of art. And unfortunately for you, beautiful paintings and sculptures are either in museums or still at the stores because it's just too expensive. That said it is safe to come up with a conclusion that a person's imagination, especially if we are talking about well-known ones, is quite pricey.

So if you want art, you can either buy knock-offs or paint your own. Don't know a thing about painting? Study, then. But if you don't have time, you don't really need to know about strokes. After all, painting is an art. And as long as you have a paintbrush, some paint, and a little dose of imagination with you, you can very easily make your own masterpiece. Just follow your heart and imagination. Don't get frustrated over the first few tries. That's why it's called trying. On the other hand, you can opt for painting your walls instead. It will instantly up the ante of the entire room. Before choosing colors, think of the lay-out of the entire room first. Then you can choose bright colors for the kitchen and pastel ones for a baby's room. Warm colors are best in your bedroom or guest room.

You can always try pottery if have a potting machine as a family's heirloom. But if you don't, then forget it, unless, of course, if you are willing to spend. There is another alternative for pottery. You can try molding clay into the desired shape. Then bake it afterwards. You don't need to mess with paint here since clays come in different colors. You may place them around the kitchen or inside cupboards. You can also attach magnets to them to adorn your refrigerator.

If getting down and dirty is not your type, then maybe having paper cuts would suit you. Origami is the Japanese art of folding. You can place it on top of bookshelves or make lots of them and put them in a basket. Books of origami are available in local bookstores. But if you are too lazy to get up, then ordering online is the only choice you've got, and definitely not a bad choice.

Sewing or knitting is a very good and useful talent, too. You can sew throw pillow cases during your free time in the office, during commercial breaks while watching TV, or whenever you have nothing better to do. If you knit, then you can knit little blankets that you can casually place over your throw pillows. These blankets can keep you warm by the fireplace which is perfect for the Holiday season. You may also choose green and red to compliment Christmas.

And if you are a book-lover, instead of buying a bookshelf, you can save more if you place your books along the staircase. When doing this, focus on the levels. Make sure that the books are not that well-arranged to make it look homey and to avoid looking very serious or OC.

However, if you do not have any of the talents mentioned above nor the books, then you should be willing to let out some bucks. Don't worry; this won't cost you a lot. Again, you need imagination to do this. Scour local flea markets. Easy, isn't it? You can find cool things there. An example is buying a bread toaster in a very light pink color. It doesn't matter if it still works or not. You will only use it as a vase for paper flowers, anyway. It looks very chic in a little unconventional way, but still, quirky items make your home more interesting.
