Blinds; Perfect For Any Environment

Blinds are an extremely popular form of window covering used in people's homes across the land. There are plethora of different styles and varieties of blinds out there from, rollers to vertical and Venetian. These varieties however have been well documented so this article will instead focus upon the different features of blinds and how these suit various rooms and purposes in the home.

Many blinds effectively blackout rooms from sunlight. For people who work nights, or put children to bed early they are the ideal solution that will turn day into night. Blackout blinds are usually made from fabric and consist of rollers or roman shades. As well as uses in bedrooms they are frequently used in home cinemas or conference rooms where slide shows are often performed.

For those who do not want a complete blackout, dim out blinds can be a more versatile option. These come in the roller, panel and pleated varieties. It is important however to ensure that the material used in construction is a special dim out variety that will continue to allow light. This type of blind is ideal for bathrooms where a complete blackout is not needed but the privacy of a roller is required.

The wipe clean feature present on many different types of blinds gives this form of window covering an added versatility. Blinds quite easily become dirty and greasy, especially in areas such as the kitchen or children's play room. Ultimately materials such as PVC, aluminium and wood will be most suitable for their wipe clean properties although it should be remembered that modern fabrics are also available in a wipe clean format.

For the clean freaks out there, blinds are now available in antibacterial materials. Understandably these are suited to certain environments, particularly places such as hospitals, schools and nursing homes. The material itself is not antibacterial but it is instead coated with a specially formulated solution.

Light reflective blinds can be used in especially bright areas where heat can become a problem. For example conservatories can become extremely hot during the summer; hence by having a blind that allows light in but restricts the heat from the sun it is possible to have a bright and cool area. The properties of flame retardant blinds are self explanatory and add safety to a home.

As well as blinds with different features blinds are available in a number of different materials that can be chosen between for practical and stylistic reasons. One of the more fashionable materials used in blind manufacture is suede. This will give a sense of style to a room and creates a softness that is hard to find with any other material. Suede also has good thermal properties. Wooden blinds are remarkably common in many homes and are a simple and sophisticated form of window covering. Aluminium is frequently used in the manufacture of venetian blinds and can be extremely affordable. Polyester is used in many fabric blinds as it is relatively cheap and can be treated with various coatings; in addition PVC is often used as an affordable material for the slats in blinds.

Hopefully this article has given homeowners an understanding of the features provided by different blinds. With modern manufacturing processes it is possible to have these features mixed and matched meaning that blinds can be an extremely practical window covering in the home, office or any other environment.
