How To Decorate With Indian Wooden Bowls All Year Round
Use an Indian wooden bowl for a centerpiece? What a fabulous year round decoration! I use my carved bowl every season and never get tired of the various ways of decorating to make each season special. If you like to decorate for each season like I do, you know what an impact the table decoration can make on your rustic home decor. I want to share some ideas with you that I use on my dining room table and I know you will love the look because I get compliments all the time. In fact, people love my wooden bowl so much that I now give them as gifts to my special friends.
You will find that some bowls are shaped with a sanded finish while others may be shaped by a machete for more of a chiseled, rustic look. Each bowl is hand crafted from a native yellow pine log and can also be made with rawhide lacing. Whether you choose a more finished or rustic bowl, you will enjoy having an authentic bowl hand carved by the Tarahumara Indians for your southwestern home.
Traditionally these bowls were used for food preparation, but they are now created to be used for home decor and native southwestern art. Most of the bowls are rough sanded for more of a rustic look which will make the bottoms be more round than flat. I made mine less wobbly by touching it up on the bottom with my own sander. It turned out perfect for me to use as an addition to my rustic decor or for gift ideas.
A creative way to display your wooden bowl is using it as a centerpiece on your dining table. You will enhance your rustic decor by displaying other items inside the authentic bowl. An assortment of fruit, pine cones, decorative orbs, and candy are just a few items that can be placed in your bowl for display. I have thoroughly enjoyed mine, especially at Christmas time.
You will be thrilled to have one as a part of your southwestern or rustic home decor all year round. They look wonderful displayed on a shelf and end table too. Some choose to use them just around the holidays as others choose to have them out all year. With just a little creativity, you can use your wooden bowl to truly capture your guest's attention anytime they visit.
In the springtime, you can choose to place silk flower petals with lady bugs and bees. I have seen one decorated with plastic Easter eggs and grass for the children and grandchildren to enjoy. You may like to give one as a special unique gift for a friend who will be gardening. Using the wooden bowl as a holder, fan out a pair of garden gloves in the middle and place a couple of tools on each side. To top off your gift place a few packets of seeds for them to plant. The bowl can be used as a planter as well. You may even choose to display one in your rock garden.
When the summer heats up, you could use your wooden bowl as the source of snacks for your children or guest to grab on the go. If you love the beach, cut out a small piece of fish netting and lay in the bowl. You may then place seashells, starfish, clam shells and etc. all around in a decorative pattern. Once you start being creative, your mind will run away with tons of ideas.
During the fall, display an array of fall silk leaves with pumpkins and gourds. One year, I placed wheat strands evenly on each side of the bowl with a few small pumpkins in the middle. I then stuck some sunflowers around the pumpkins to add more color to my fall piece. Other items you could use would be dried corn, hay, twigs and mini scarecrows.
Let it snow. Let it snow. When the winter chill blows in, you want to make sure your home decor shows its warmth too. For my winter centerpiece, I place silk holly leaves on the bottom and up a little on the sides. I creatively placed pine cones and berries around in the bowl to give my wooden bowl more of a rustic holiday look. You may even place poinsettias around the pine cones. I have also placed cinnamon sticks in the bottom to really give that warm sweet smell.
No matter your taste or personality, you will find that with a little creativity your Indian wooden bowl will certainly be a conversational piece in your southwestern or rustic home. Enjoy your rustic bowl knowing that it is a piece of the Tarahumara Indians' culture. Give them as a gift or use them in or outside your own home throughout the whole year.
