Use Native American Dream Catchers For Home Decor

A Native American dream catcher is a beautiful handmade work of art that has been made for many generations. Each dream catcher is unique with a variety of colors and styles. Once the hoop has been crafted and wrapped in leather, the dream catcher can then be personalized with items considered sacred. You will commonly see that they are usually decorated with feathers and beads.

Through out the years, dream catchers have become more of an Indian wall art than what they were typically made for. This Native American symbol was traditionally made for catching the children's dreams. It was told that it would protect the children from nightmares as they asleep. The dream catcher was to be hung over the child's bed and while they were sleeping, it would filter their dreams. The good dreams would pass through the center hole and slip down the feathers to the sleeping child. The bad dreams would be caught or trapped in the web and at dawn they would perish at the first struck of sun light.

The dream catcher has played a huge role in the Native American culture for many years. The hoop of the dream catcher is a significant component that symbolized unity and strength. You can find many symbols that have started from the basic hoop, and the dream catcher is one of the famous ones. You will see that many of these are uniquely handmade by local artists of Native American Indian tribes.

These hand crafted items are a great way to bring history and culture into your southwestern or Native style home. Your home decor will be unique with a one-of-a-kind dream catcher. Some are usually made the same way, but with different bead work and various feathers for decoration. You can even find that some of the Native American style dream catchers are made with a natural shed deer antler for a unique wall decor design. They are sometimes made with not only the beads, feather and leather, but with a medicine wheel and/or medicine bag.

Any home decor would be complete with a simple dream catcher. Although, hanging one of these native symbols as a part of your wall decor would be a perfect way to embrace the Native American culture. Not only are you improving your southwest or western decor, you will also be given the chance to instill a part of history to someone that enters your home. When you really look at a dream catcher, you can see the detailed work it took to make one. It is thrilling to know that through the generations that some of the Native American tribes still know how to make dream catchers.

I have seen dream catchers used for many types of decor. You commonly see them hung as an accent for Indian wall art. You may even see them hung from the rear view mirrors in vehicles. I have known for some to display them on a wreath for their front door. Having a wreath handcrafted with many Native American style symbols is truly a unique way to welcome guests in your home. There are many ways to be creative when accenting your native or southwestern style decor.

Whether you choose to display one over your sleeping child or as a part of your wall decor, you will enjoy having a piece of the Native American culture in your southwestern home. The great fact about dream catchers is that they can be displayed in any western home, log cabin, or rustic lodge. Native American dream catchers will continue being a tradition for the American Indians culture and history for all the years to come.
