What You Need To Know Before Installing A Pool

Pools are among the most popular features of a home. In fact, many people specifically look for them when making a home buying decision. Even if your home does not have a pool when you first move in, you may wish to add one at a later date.

There are two types of pools: those that are built above ground, and those that are what is called in-ground which means they are actually placed in a hole in the ground. There are several benefits to adding a pool to your home. If you decide to add an in-ground pool, you will probably raise the value of your home so that should you decide to sell it, you may receive more than what you paid when you purchased it. Adding a pool also gives you a place to relax, entertain, and exercise all in the comforts of your own home.

Another benefit to adding a pool to your home is the ability to reap the benefits without having to contend for space at the public pool down the street or at the local community center. There are, however, several considerations that should be give before making such a decision.

If you choose to add an above-ground pool, you will want to be sure your ground in your yard is right. This means that if you live on a hill, you may have to check into having a part of the yard leveled, or into placing the pool in an area that won't affect it once it has been installed. Because you will need to assemble it, and because it will be above ground, you will need to make sure it is properly seated so the sides will not cave in or the lining will not tear. Some people even choose to build a deck around their above-ground pools so as to give the effect of an in-ground pool, and to stabilize the overall structure.

If you choose to add an in-ground pool, you will want to make sure you have enough space in your yard for doing this. In some cases, this mean cutting down trees and clearing greenery, but the size of the pool you will be able to install will depend on the amount of usable space you have in your yard.

You will also need to be sure you have enough room left for a fence. This is especially important if you have children, but should be a consideration even if you do not. Finally, make sure you will have the time to properly take care of the pool. This means regularly cleaning it and making sure it is free of unwanted debris. It also means checking the chlorine levels to be sure there is enough, or there isn't too much. Too much chlorine in a pool can be harmful to those who swim in it. Lastly, enjoy your investment. If you do not plan to use it frequently, you might want to think about this before spending the money to have it installed.
