Which Kitchen Worktops To Choose?
Like most things in the consumer market today, kitchen worktops come in all manner of styles, prices, colours, sizes and shapes. It seems making purchases are no longer as easy as they once were. Gone are the days of walking in to a store, deciding between two or three products and heading home with a satisfactory purchase. We in the UK, have become spoilt for choice with what is now available to us. Whether you have recently moved house and are looking to fit a brand new kitchen or are simply looking to update what you already have, there are plenty of options available to you. So how do you decide which kitchen worktops to choose?
Kitchen worktops are made from a wide range of materials including wood, glass, laminate, stainless steel and granite. Everyone has a preference to which they prefer and each offers benefits and drawbacks however ultimately your choice will come down to what you can afford and which style you prefer.
Purchasing new kitchen worktops is an investment that you expect to last and therefore you need to think practically when you make your choice. Every kitchen sees different levels of activity. If yours is usually jam-packed with family members coming and going and food constantly being prepared throughout the day and night, perhaps a wooden surface would meet your needs. If however, cooking in not your forte, you may opt for a glass or laminate worktop, offering a touch of class to your kitchen.
If you are a keen cook, you should look for worktops that will be heat resistant so they are not marked by hot pans. If you have a family with young children, you may well want to consider worktops that have antibacterial features, to protect them from any un-necessary germs. The best materials for this kind of worktop are stainless steel and corian. While you may find this material scratches over time, it is very easy to keep clean and mop up any spills in seconds.
Hardwood is a popular material for kitchen worktops because of its versatility, practicality and its earthly image. It is ideal for food preparation areas and looks great in most kitchens. Wooden worktops shouldn't stain assuming you wipe up all spills immediately. If you leave them to soak in to the wood, they will stain. If you want to enhance their durability further, it's advisable to seal them when they are first purchased.
Another alternative are Composite worktops, which are manufactured from artificial stone making them an extremely durable work surface. Not only practical, composite worktops are also extremely contemporary and stylish and make a fine addition to any kitchen as they are available in such a vast range of colours and patterns. They are easy to keep clean; if you cause a spill, simply use a detergent to mop it up.
If you're looking for something a little more luxurious, you may wish to choose Granite kitchen worktops. Certainly a more expensive option, however if you have the budget, granite makes an excellent investment. It oozes luxury and this timeless material will forever remain in style. Easy to maintain and keep clean, it's durable and able to withstand high temperatures and spillages. While there are a vast number of options of kitchen worktops to invest in, you simply need to keep in mind what style you like, what price you can afford and how practical you need to be.
