Home Office-Organizing Tools
Good home office organization would definitely not include piles of file folders and books on the floor, papers strewn all over the desk and several different pens hiding beneath those books and papers. When you look at your home office, observe its condition and if it looks as messy as the above description, then you should probably decide to do something about it. You must have heard all the old cliches like one step at a time, create a new habit or start small.
However, if you try following these techniques, it will probably work for a day or so and once you see signs of improvement, you will lose all motivation to keep your office organized. You can spend hours and hours on end in focussing your time and energy on cleaning and organizing your office, but if not done right, your office will end up looking just as it did before you organized it.
There are a couple of home office organizing tips that you should follow and tools you need to buy, in order to keep a mess and disorderliness at bay. They are:
. Organize your books: Start by organizing your books. Get yourself notepad covers, which are basically fabric covers that help to coordinate and decorate your books and other to-do-lists. Available in a variety of colors, notepad covers will make it easier for you to identify the book you want, without taking out all the other books. Your books must be properly arranged in a bookshelf, to avoid cluttering the place. Besides, having an orderly bookshelf will always make your home office look more professional and clean.
. Arrange important lists and papers: Once you are done with organizing your books, it is time to focus all your attention on the stacks of paper piling up in the corners or the ones that are left strewn all over your desk. Stackable paper trays can be used to store paper or they can be used to store your mail. Like the notepad covers, paper trays are also available in a variety of colors and sizes. Once you have cleared up all the paper mess that you created, look around and see how your office looks.
. Create a good filing system: In case you do not want to leave all your important papers and documents in a paper tray, you can have them filed. For a professional looking office, a good and efficient filing system is essential. Files can be numbered or labeled according to their level of importance and must be placed in drawers.
. Get stationery holders: Once everything else is cleared up, all that is left is your stationery strewn all over the desk. Get special pencil and pen holders to maintain your stationery. Pencils should be placed in a separate holder and pens and markers in a separate one. If you want to brighten up your office, you can go ahead and buy colorful holders to make your desk look livelier. Paperweights can be used to weigh those papers down that have not yet been filed.
. Lighting: Good lighting is extremely important for any home based office, so it is advisable to get yourself a good table lamp.
. Waste paper Baskets: Get yourself a decently sized waste paper basket and instead of crumpling the unwanted papers or keeping them in untidy stacks in a corner, throw them into the waste paper basket. This practice will help keep your home office clean and organized all the time.
