Reasons And Ways Of Doing Mold Removal
Mold growth outside the home is just but natural. It plays part in nature breaking down dead organic matter. But if a mold grows inside a home, then that is not natural. Exposure to it can cause severe health problems. Children, pregnant women and the elderly are at higher risk than other people when exposed to molds harmful effects.
Molds reproduce when their tiny spores, which are invisible to the human eye, float through indoor air and land on surfaces that are wet. They grow with the help of water and moisture. When mold spores are inhaled by people, especially if the exposure is great and particularly to those with allergies and asthma, they can cause mild to serious illnesses. Molds produce pollen that can cause allergic reaction to sensitive people when they are inhaled or touched. Molds can also trigger asthma attacks to people with asthma. It can also cause irritation to the eyes, skin, nose, throat and lungs.
Because of the irritants that molds bring to the home, the need to remove them before they bring harm to the home is important. When doing a mold removal process, it is necessary to be cautious and wear a respirator for nose and mouth, protection. Wear also preventive clothing that can be discarded or laundered after the mold removal is done. Eye protection and gloves for the hands are also important gear that should be worn all throughout the operation.
During the process of mold removal, it is important to clean one room or one space at a time. Before starting off to clean an area, seal off the area with plastic sheeting and duct tape cover openings, vents and doorways.
If the outer part of the mold is dry, lightly spray it with water before removing the mold. The reason for this is that dry molds can be airborne and if it is taken while it is dry, this might cause the mold particles to flow through the air which could cause the mold to transfer to another part of the house and bring about another mold removal job in the future. Getting mold spores airborne might also cause allergic reactions to the people in that place.
Carefully clean the infected area with soap and water and take out as much of the mold as possible. Then, disinfect the area using a bleach and water solution. It is also good to consider surfaces that do not have visible molds and clean and disinfect them as well. It is because that the mold in those areas might be too small for people to see. This will serve as a precaution for future mold removal. The part where you did disinfecting should stay wet for about 15 minutes to allow it to disinfect. And after that, rinse the area and dry it off.
Discard any hazardous material that you might find, including the clothes that you are probably wearing while doing mold removal. Put the infected items in a plastic bag and seal it. Do not carry the sealed plastic bag through the whole house but use the nearest window or door to transport the discarded materials.
Before using the area that was affected by molds, it is important after mold removal to air the room out to get rid of any poisonous substance that is still in that part of the home.
