The Difference Between Regular and Memory Foam Mattresses - Which is Better?
For me, the regular bed mattress does not stand the test of time, but most people prefer it because it is the most affordable solution as far as putting a bed inside your bedroom goes. It provides height, and form to your bed. It is mostly good for overall bed spaces and a must-have for people who are accustomed to sleeping on beds.
Yet most regular bed mattresses are not soft enough to achieve sleeping comfort. These mattresses can also cause back pains and other body pains because they are not designed to fit the contours of our bodies.
Regular mattresses come in different sizes. Let us have a quick review of the different mattress sizes. There is the twin type bed mattress, which is the smallest of all the bed mattresses because it fits only one person.
The next size is the double bed, which is slightly longer and bigger in width than the single bed mattress. It fits two people, hence, the word "double."
The bigger mattress next to this is the full mattress, which is slightly longer than the double but still fits two people. This is longer than the queen sized bed, but the queen is spacious enough for two people as well.
The largest bed is the king sized bed mattress, which is definitely larger than the queen and can fit three people.
The California King size is slightly larger than the normal king size in width but still has the same length. These California King sized beds are the biggest available beds, unless you have one custom made. No matter the size of bed, for me, what really makes the difference is the mattress on top.
Luckily, there is an innovation in bed mattresses called the memory foam mattress. This is the perfect alternative to the norm. It offers you that soft, welcoming feel to a mattress that will allow you to sleep more comfortably than other regular mattresses.
The inner soft cushion is the secret to the memory foam's appeal as it allows air to be pushed out of the foam. The outer covering is made up of a soft, cotton fabric, and latex that allows for the stretchable quality.
Foam mattresses often come in different sizes and densities. The foam densities range from 2 to 4 pounds. It supports your body and the heat-reducing channels (pore-like texture) allows your body to feel cool all night long. What's also great about a foam mattress is that you can place it on top of your old mattress as a mattress topper. It easily adapts to any size of bed mattress, even if the foam mattress is smaller, because as the foam mattress is used, the foam magnifies and becomes bigger.
I have experienced both mattresses and for years, I was used to sleeping in a standard, double-sized bed. The mattress wasn't hard but it lacked that natural and comfortable softness, that allows your body to simply sink into the bed when you lie down on it. I experienced this next level of comfort when I purchased my first memory foam mattress, which instantly gave the bed added comfort and aesthetic appeal as well. The bed looked bigger and was easier to climb into because of the added height.
This upgrade also solved my back pain problem because my body was cradled in the right areas by the foam. It felt so pleasing to lie down on the bed and waking up the next day feeling refreshed from a good night's sleep. I definitely prefer the foam mattress to the regular mattresses that eventually become creeky because of springs, and did not live up to the test of time.
So, if you're on the fence when it comes to making an investment in a quality memory foam upgrade from your worn out, old mattress, I hope this helps you to decide. Once you take the plunge, you'll never go back to your old ways of sleeping again.
