Water is the most common substance of the earth, making up 70% of the earthГўпїЅпїЅs total surface area. Two thirds of the human body is made up of water as well, though it is the most common element or substance, water is also the most vital for human existence and the earthГўпїЅпїЅs survival. We humans use water not only for drinking but also for taking a bath, washing dishes, watering our plants, cooking, for washing our clothes and many, many more. In other words, water is very, very important for humans to continue living. However, nowadays, humans could no longer drink water directly from the river, creek, or even unpurified spring water because of the rampant water pollution that is happening around us.Teaching your children what to drink or eat or where to get their drinking water should be your utmost concern, because they are not under your watchful gaze every time they go somewhere else like school, figure skating practices, basketball games, and others. Fortunately, water purification was developed to physically and chemically treat water to protect, satisfy and nourish the human body. Water purification is a physical and chemical process to treat a raw water to make it safe and potable (drinking) water. There are many water-treatment plants that solely exists for the purpose of physically and chemically treating these natural water because they contain organic and inorganic substances that could be cultivated by contaminants due to human activities which will cause water borne diseases like Cryptosporidium infection, Escherichia coli infection, Giardia infection, Viral Hepatitis A, Amoebiasis, Cyclosporiasis and others.
There are many methods of water purification; among these are water filtration, screening, aeration, floccution, sedimentation, coagulation, disinfection, water softening, adsorption, and oxidation. Water filtration uses sand with crushed coal to filter the finely suspended substance from the water. Screening on the other hand needs the use of coarse screening or bars for the removable of large floating and suspended debris form the water. Sedimentation is the method of removing particles from the water by allowing them to settle in a tank.
Most of these methods however are not readily available for household use if they want to purify their own water supply or for those residents that lived in an area where water-treatment plant are not yet available. However, the most common method, which is water filtration, could now be use in a household and are now being produced and distributed due to the demand of the population who are now more aware of the health risks and factors if they do not treat their drinking water or their water supply. There are many kinds of water filters. Some of these are Carbon water filters, Charcoal water filters, Water distillers, Ceramic water filters, Reverse osmosis filters, Ultra violet radiation systems.
There are also companies that produce bottled water; most individuals prefer this, though if you would buy boxes and boxes of bottled water it would cost you more than your own water filtration system. In addition, your own water filter at home would be readily available for you especially if you are one busy individual who only has limited time to go to supermarkets to provide your family with purified water. If you have your own water filter, you only need to buy a water container. Moreover, one best advantage of water filters in your home is that your children who often are unconcerned about what they eat or drink has protection from bacteria that cause diseases. Furthermore, establishments such as shopping malls, schools, business buildings should have their own water filters to protect the people who often go there.
