Abraham Hicks - Have They Got The Law Of Attraction Sewn Up?

In case you don't know, Abraham Hicks is a group of non-physical beings who impart knowledge about the law of attraction through Esther Hicks. Her husband, Jerry Hicks asks a lot of questions to extract the answers about how the universe works from this fount of knowledge.

For the cynics and the sceptics perhaps we should consider the question of whether Abraham Hicks exists at all. I confess I wondered the same thing when I first read "Ask And It Is Given", (perhaps their best known book), but after a few pages I realised there was only one reasonable answer to that. It doesn't matter!

The knowledge about the law of attraction and the easily understood style in which it is presented makes such a question completely irrelevant. If it's Esther's own mind that makes it up, then she's one smart cookie anyway! Besides, it would be a strange way to get famous - claiming you're possessed! I'm a trained psychiatric nurse and I certainly wouldn't claim that "alien" beings were talking through me unless I was very sure of my audience and my facts!

By far the bigger question, it seems to me, is whether they have delivered enough information about the law of attraction, not whether Abraham Hicks is "real" or not. The whole question of what reality is comes under scrutiny once you start delving into the law of attraction anyway!

To answer the question sensibly we must try to discern the impact they have on the lives of those who read and follow them. Since we can't know that for certain, (and maybe even they don't), we must assume that their loyal fans fall into the two main categories that so many teachers of this kind have as their following.

The first category is those who learn and move on. If Jerry, Esther and Abraham Hicks are the good leaders and teachers they seem to be, their most fervent wish would be to turn students into practitioners and even more leaders in the field of teaching the law of attraction.

The second category is the wide-eyed fans. This is a problem for all teachers - especially the good ones. Anthony Robbins, for example, so recognises the problem that he long ago introduced compulsory follow-up coaching into his high level courses. It is frighteningly easy to believe that without the teacher you won't make it, and so a kind of co-dependency establishes itself; in some instances it might even be regarded as akin to addiction!

There is no way I can offer you proof - this is a subjective judgment only - but for me Jerry, Esther and Abraham Hicks withstand the scrutiny. I do not believe that they would have established the following that they have if all of their work was a marketing trick or publicity stunt. Besides, it has to be imagined that they could have retired long ago on the royalties from their earlier work if their only motive was gathering cash. I maybe naive, but I like to believe that most of us can detect the difference between a scam and something with integrity.

The bottom line is this: Abraham Hicks' teachings make you feel good. They even go to great lengths to explain how to feel good when you don't. If that was all they achieved, it would be worth studying their material.

But they achieve far more than that. They can change your destiny if you will apply what you learn. Once you can do that, all that remains for you to do is to let go of Abraham Hicks as your teacher and simply put into practice what you've learned. Your life will change, of that I have no doubt.

Oh, one more obligation you should meet: tell others!
