How to Overcome Fear?
Do you remember, when you were a baby, you were asked not to run into a dark room, even during the course pf play, you had to come back before dark, for fear of ghosts? It is from that very incident that you learnt to believe that ghosts lurk in dark corners of the house. If you're naughty, they'll come and carry you away!
Most of our fears result from these obscure, eerie experiences that send shivers down our spines. The truth is, the more you dwell on these fears, and they increase, assuming greater proportions every day. Do the ghost stories steal your sleep at night?? Very few people realize this happens because you tend to sit and think a lot about the stories you heard; and the ghosts in the story seem to become real, existing creatures that haunt your room at night.
Fear is the root cause of all superstitions, and blind faith in certain customs that really have to basis! To overcome fear, you'll have to understand that fear is based on a premise that is completely untrue, to which you're giving a real shape.
If you can deny the cause of fear itself, you can conquer it. It is very rightly said that, overcoming fear and displaying courage is actually overcoming superstitions and all the irrationality that rule our lives.
The first step in conquering your fear would be to try and comprehend whether you fear is real, or is it some nagging doubt in your mind that is terrorizing you. For example, a baby's natural fear of the dark, have you ever tried to analyze it in a practical manner?
Most of us grow up believing that darkness is the dwelling place of all evil spirits! Have you ever tried to switch on the lights and see for yourself?? Most of us were too scared to do that! Like a lot of our values, fear too, in most cases is a concept we were taught to believe in, the stories of ghosts and evil spirits that are capable of doing terrible things is something we were asked to be scared of again and again till the fear became a part of us!
See fear as an explored, dangerous territory that you have to conquer. All of us are scared of something or the other, but rather than living in fear, its best to analyze your fears, and have a good laugh after you discover how trivial it was!
If you are scared of the dark, if you feel somebody is following you while you cross a dark lane, take a (brave) friend the next time you go there. You can also take out your music player and play it as loud as you can, and before you know it, you'll have crossed the dark lane, all in one piece, and certainly braver than you were!
It's best to acknowledge that the causes for most of your concerns do exist, but we must see them as tests we must pass. If you're scared of those boys in the street who follow you and pass lewd comments, stand up to them, face them, show them you're not scared. The moment you do this, you'll realize that the bullies were having their share of fun at your expense; they are actually cowards who wouldn't dare do that to a girl brave enough to slap them, give them a taste of their own medicine!
So the next time you're scared, don't just take the easy way out, don't avoid the cause of your fear, rather, face them. If necessary, travel in a group, so that your friends can all stand up for you!
The next step is letting your fears go. You must realize that by allowing your fears to rule over you completely, you're actually stopping yourself from doing certain things. The key to change this is to think positive. Before letting the fears sink deep into your existence, rethink them out.
Don't completely dispel them, rather face them and let them go once and for all. Fears exist because of a reason, or a cruel experience. Your strategy must be to get to the root of this reason. Lastly, think positive.
If you learn to think positive, you can overcome not only of the influence of fear in your life, but you can also change your perceptions about fear. Shooing away your fears will only make them seem larger than life, so will thinking about them at every opportunity. It's better to work at taking effective decisions in order to set yourself free from these irrational superstitions.
