ABC's of Writing For The Web

Affiliate marketing is a business undertaking that involves wearing many hats. One day you're studying to learn more about the products you sell. The next day you find yourself sprucing up your web page design. Then there's the words you must write to promote your affiliate products.

Writing to promote your business means writing in many styles. You will write in different voices. You will write copy of different lengths; some involved discourse; some short and snappy. It all depends on the promotional initiative you are involved with currently.

If you're new to affiliate marketing, it's wise to start with the ABCs of web writing. By ABCs, we're talking about writing across different platforms. Yes, there are the DEFs and so on to consider too. However, today we will look at Ads, Blogs, and Content as applies to articles. The following is a quick overview of what to focus on in each discipline:

Ads

Advertisements are your vehicle to promote your affiliate products concisely. They are typically short bursts of information designed to grab your niche market's attention. The goal of a good ad is to inspire the reader to action. The following tips will help your ad writing connect with your audience:

* Have an effective headline stating a product benefit. This could be something as simple as "The Number One Omega-3 Product for Lowering Cholesterol." This immediately tells the reader what the ad is about and why the product will benefit them.

* Don't write for yourself; write for your potential customer. Think of their wants and needs and speak directly to them in clear precise language. Don't write from a selfish point of view. Write to give information to your audience, while at the same time encouraging them to act.

* Use customer testimonials in your copy. This can be short comments by customers describing how a product helped them.

* Place an incentive in your ad. Describe the incentive appropriately. This could be a coupon code that a customer later inputs. This could be for a product discount on your website.

* Write persuasive body copy. Again, you want your audience to take action and order from you. Give them quality information that tells them why they should.

Blogs

With your blog writing, adapt a more conversational tone designed to encourage reader comments. Your blog is a platform to keep your niche market current on topics related to your affiliate products. Invite them to be active participants in your blog community.

Use a blog to educate and entertain your readers. With vibrant, informative writing, you build credibility as an Internet marketer. You subsequently encourage linking back to your website where you can begin the selling process. A blog is a vehicle to engage in pre-selling your target market.

Vary the length and scope of your blog posts. This adds variety to the blog. You do not want the blog to appear as a rambling string of long dry posts of the same length every day. Make some posts light and breezy in tone. Make some posts detailed product reviews. Just remember to write a minimum of three times a week for your blog.

Content (For Articles)

Article writing for your article marketing initiatives is your meat and potatoes writing. This writing really lets your affiliate product expertise shine. In depth, well-researched articles that give useful information to readers pay great dividends.

First, you can present a lot of information in an article. You have the freedom to expound on a topic more than you do with ad writing. Second, you present information without the hyped-up sales language. Readers do not feel that you are pressuring them to buy with article writing. This is your chance to build the trust factor with them. When they are comfortable with you, they will often link back to your website.

Engage in quality article writing and then plan an article promotion campaign. Use this type of content to build further your credibility as an affiliate marketer. In addition, don't forget to choose a good article distribution service to get that content to a broad spectrum of Internet publishers.

Learn the ABCs of web writing to promote your affiliate business. Once you are proficient, move on to other platforms. Learn to write effectively for some of them as well. This could be Direct Mail, E-Newsletters, and Forum posting, and so on down the alphabet. Words are crucial to helping your target market understand you and your affiliate products better.
