Are You Writing According To Your USP?
In affiliate marketing, you will appear as a dime a dozen if you don't present yourself as unique. Online and offline, there are countless numbers of marketers vying for consumers' attention. Those who have a Unique Selling Proposition typically garner the business.
Rosser Reeves, an advertising expert, came up with this term in the early '60s. In essence, he talked about something your business has to offer, exclusive to you. While other businesses may offer similar products and services, none delivers like you. This is how you must operate as an affiliate marketer. After all, you will be promoting the same products others in your program are promoting.
It's vital that your advertising writing contains your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). You want to be the hot dog stand everyone is crowded around at the beach, so-to-speak. Don't present your business as being no different from others. The result will be indifference from your target market. They will have no qualms in choosing your competitors over you. Why should they, you're a hot dog from the same link.
Let's explore what constitutes the USP. Understanding what it is will help you create your own. You can then instill it in your webpage content, blogs and advertisements. You can even introduce it casually in forum postings. Your USP will definitely be part of the e-mail messages you write.
You will have to be careful including USP's in your article writing as part of your article marketing campaigns, though. Article distribution services do not want blatant advertising in generic informational articles. You can allude to your USP in articles, but be very careful or you face publisher rejection. The following are elements of your USP:
Make A Proposition To Your Audience That Tells Them Of Benefits They Will Receive
People shell out their hard-earned dollars to businesses that help them. Therefore, your writing must spell out the benefits of your business. Your website, a blog post, and your business advertisements must talk of what you have to offer that's different.
This is the "What I will do for you" kind of writing. You should write of the value-added services you provide. You will want to mention the selection and quality of products on your site. In addition, write about the resources you have to offer concerning topics related to your affiliate products. Let your audience know your site offers information beyond what the affiliate parent and other affiliates do. Show them you not only promote products, but also write about them intelligently to educate others.
Show That Your USP Is One That Others Do Not Offer
Is there a special report, customer testimonial, or expert interview you have concerning your product. Did you conduct a short study, do research, or a survey concerning the affiliate product. Are these unique reports and such, which no one else has done? Let your audience know this through the ads you write. Write about this on your home page or landing page.
Maybe you developed a good product demonstration video and wrote the attendant narration. This is part of your USP. Write about this to let others know. Other affiliate marketers may have a banner ad on a website about the same affiliate product you're promoting. That's the extent of their offering to their customer base. You have detailed special reports and streaming video that you scripted concerning the product. Your ads and promotional material that you write should let your market know this.
Motivate The Majority With Your USP
Finally, your USP must talk to the majority of your target market. You must be careful how you write your USP. Why work to come up with a USP that only appeals to a small portion of you target market. This is a waste of your time and effort.
Maybe you market travel services and destinations for your affiliate parent travel agency. Do some of your ads say something like "We Offer the Lowest Discount Trips to Chicago"? On the other hand, is it "The Best Travel Discounts Bar None, When You Need Them, To Anywhere in North America"?
You will attract more clicks with the latter than with the former. There's nothing wrong with a trip to Chicago. However, only a small portion of your overall niche market of North American travelers will plan a trip there. You want the majority of your niche visiting your website.
Consider your Unique Selling Proposition as you write to promote your business. Let this USP help people choose you as their link to the affiliate products they desire. Be that affiliate marketer whose business is different. Let your niche know you're different, and that you offer more than just affiliate products.
