Online Marketing: Continued
In recent years, there has been a huge increase in the volume of articles written online with the intent of having them submitted for possible publishing. This can be a very cost effective form of advertising since, invariably, the cost to the author is zero.
Writing an article and presenting it online a few at a time has now been replaced by submissions involving hundreds, and even thousands of articles from a single author.
The publishers of these articles certainly benefit. In fact, that they can add Adsense contextual ads to each submission and therefore receive a corresponding income.
Accordingly, the more articles they receive from authors, the greater their projected income. It is for this reason that publishers make every effort to encourage authors to submit ever more articles. There is evidence to indicate that one highly prolific article writer has written and submitted 12,900 articles.
A further benefit of generating such huge volumes of online articles is that the author will receive abundant backlinks, which are incoming links to a website from another website. The number of backlinks that a website receives represents the popularity or importance of that website. Backlinks received from important or authoritative sites on a given topic are regarded as highly valuable. If both websites have content based on the same keyword topic, the backlink is considered relevant. Accordingly, it will have strong influence on the search engine rankings of the webpage receiving the backlink.
Another important factor is the anchor text of the backlink, which is examined by the search engine to determine how relevant it is to the content of the webpage. When the anchor text and webpage content are of the same subject, this is highly weighted in search engine results page (SERP) rankings of the webpage with respect to any given keyword query by a search engine user.
In order to determine the number of backlinks associated with and pointing to a particular website, such as domainname.com, Google can be searched using the link command link:domainname.com.
When the articles are distributed using the web feed system RSS, the website exposure and number of backlinks is greatly increased. RSS is a Web feed system used to publish frequently updated pieces of data in a standard format. These may include blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video. Publishers gain by using web feeds since it allows them to syndicate content automatically. On the other hand, readers benefit who want to subscribe to regular updates from selected websites or to combine feeds from many sites into one place
An interesting article submission option consists of the author being able to determine the content of the advertising space on the page where his article is to be posted. With this option, the author may choose to have no advertising to compete with the article, or to retain the advertising on the page along with the revenue generated.
Each article contains, at its base, a Resource box, also called a bio box or byline, which includes a short summary describing the author together with references and contact details relating to the author, in the case of an individual, or his business. The bio box is also used to house the business' or individual's website details, including the domain name, which a viewer may wish to pursue in order to gain more insight and detail concerning the subject material in the article. The content of the Resource box is critical to the success of any article.
