Surviving an Affiliate Marketing Meltdown
We're going to get a little philosophical and less technical in this article. It all has to do with the way things are and the way they may be for a while. It's the old "don't put your head in the sand but rather keep walking the beach" philosophy.
With the economy on a very bumpy road, it has everyone wondering if there's smooth pavement ahead. While we all certainly hope so, there are no guarantees. All sectors of the economy are feeling the repercussions of instability in the financial markets. No one industry is immune to the whims of supply and demand playing across the globe.
Of course, that means affiliate marketers are battling strong and damaging economic headwinds too. For the foreseeable future affiliates are going to have to operate their businesses more efficiently. No matter what affiliate product or service you sell, you have your work cut out for you. It doesn't matter if you're in the best affiliate programs, they do not market themselves. You have to do the time-consuming work.
Should that be a discouraging thought? The answer is no. The reason the answer is no is that perseverance will win out. Hosts of affiliate marketers will run for cover this year. As they find marketing more difficult and sales harder to come by, they will bail. It's a simple fact that when the going gets tough, not everyone gets tougher or gets going.
That's where you come in. Because you're reading this article, you obviously are looking for ways to stay on top of affiliate marketing. You are not here by chance, reading an article on affiliate marketing. You made a conscious decision to read this article on this specific topic. Amidst all that's going on in the economy, you still have an interest in and want to put effort into affiliate marketing. Therefore, you will survive an affiliate marketing meltdown.
If you make a decision not to bail, you can expect affiliate checks in the mail, even in tough times. It's the numbers game. The longer you stay in the game the more chances you have to score. Thos who head to the showers have ended their game. You are still in place to play it out and succeed.
Therefore, what do you do next? First, pick one marketing initiative right now that you will concentrate on for one week straight. A tough economy is the time to focus on specific elements of your marketing. You have to give each element the attention it deserves. This is no time to flit from marketing initiative to marketing initiative. You end up spending a little bit, but not enough time on each one.
Consider your article writing for your article marketing and article promotion campaigns. Make creating content and getting it out to a good article distribution service your goal for the coming week. Devote five days to article writing and your article campaign. Don't do any other marketing this week except for that. At the end of the week, you will have a portfolio of quality content with your links, ready to go.
This concerted effort in one area will pay off. Now, choose various other marketing initiatives and plan a set time to do each. Give each the time they deserve. Some will need more time commitment than others will. Schedule appropriately for each and don't jump to another initiative until you complete the current one.
In addition to your weekly marketing initiative, spend an hour each week studying affiliate marketing. It's the only way to stay on top of what's new in the industry. Really, an hour each week adds up. You no doubt get e-mails from affiliate marketing pros. Do you read them and the links they provide?
You should pick one or two reputable gurus and consistently read their advice. Of course, don't subscribe to every newsletter out there. You will have no time for anything else. One or two that you learn to trust for advice can supply you with quality information on a regular basis. Remember, these seasoned pros have survived affiliate-marketing ups and downs. They can give you tips for surviving the current "down."
Finally, don't give up on yourself, even when things seem bleak. Successful businesses do not survive based on fear. They survive based on sound business fundamentals consistently practiced. Market conditions alone do not hurt businesses. Inaction in the face of adversity does.
So, keep at it. Don't be one of those affiliate marketers who pulls off the side of the road with their hands in the air in frustration. Keep moving ahead. There will be smooth pavement somewhere up ahead.
