Viral Marketing Involves More than E-Mail
To market your business online, email is an essential tool for getting your message out. Today, however, with the surge in viral marketing, you do not have to rely solely on this platform. In fact, you shouldn't, as there are other ways to spread your marketing message effectively.
Internet marketing involves employing more than one tactic to reach your niche market. With viral marketing, your goal is to get information about your product to as many people as fast as possible. E-mail can do this. Something as simple as a link to your Website in your e-mail signature can spread fast.
You send an interesting e-mail to someone; they forward it to a friend. Next, that friend forwards it to a friend who then does the same. You see what can happen in very short time. The same can happen with you full-blown e-mail campaign. You promotional message can reach your opt-in list of people. Who knows whom they are passing it on to after they read? That's the power of letting others spread the word.
That's what viral marketing is. You essentially are encouraging those you communicate with to pass your product or service message on to others. Information concerning your business and your products does spread like a virus; in a good way.
The thing is, today, consumers are no longer relying solely on e-mail to communicate. Social networking sites are playing an ever-growing role in the way people communicate. Of course, people are using online instant messaging and online telephone services as well. They are also using text messaging and cell phones.
That's why as an Internet marketer you must move beyond just writing e-mail scripts. To spread that "good virus", the one about your business, you have to communicate using the other methods. These "others" are increasingly spreading the word as effectively as e-mail. E-mail is no longer king of the hill, top of the heap.
A recent study by an Internet research group found that increased use of social networking is influencing e-mail marketing. It's influencing it in that it is not as effective as it used to be as people turn to other platforms. Take a quick run around the Web and see how many people are spending time on social forums.
Look at the many niche forums that exist. Use of social forums is on the rise compared to e-mail. The same goes with instant messaging, text messaging, and cell phone use. This recent study stated that twenty-two percent of email users said they now use social networking sites instead of e-mail.
To market your particular product through social forums you have to find ones suited to your niche. It's just like what you do when you engage in article marketing. After you perform your article writing, you select a good article distribution service. The good ones will have a broad spectrum of publishers in clearly defined niches that require content.
The same goes with the social networking platforms. There are general platforms for general chat. A Web search will also point you to the many business-to-business forums that exist. On top of that, you have business-to-consumer forums and special interest forums.
Do you market affiliate products such as computer software? There are technology platforms that discuss the intricacies of various software programs and their use. These forums have a captive audience for your product. Engage in intelligent discourse on one of these forums, with your appropriate links, and you can build your business faster.
The viral effect takes place as others post replies to your thread. The more popular the topic the more hits to your forum message. This results in more people engaging in dialog. The result is more people see your links. The odds are some of them are going to click over to your site. Your message spreads just like e-mail ones. Forum posters tell others about posts that interest them.
Use social networking along with e-mail to spread your particular marketing message. While you're at it, you may want to engage in text messaging and instant messaging too. In the course of conversation, you can talk about your business, when appropriate. Add it all up, and buzz about your business is getting out there. E-mail, today, is part of viral marketing, not viral marketing in and of itself.
