Five Easy to Use Search Engine Optimization Tips

When we think about search engine optimization (SEO) we often think about how a whole website ranks within search engine results, but in actual fact engines do not rank a complete website but each webpage within the site.

By using some very simple techniques you can improve the page rank of every single page on your site. Why would you want to do that? Well, because the higher ranking each page on your website has, the more boost your whole domain gets in rankings!

If you utilize the following search engine optimization tips on your web pages they come up higher in search results - guaranteed. They are simple and a lot of people use some of the tips - but not all of them. So if you use them all you will be ahead of your competition in no time. The following tips are just five - there are more ways to get Google to notice you - but make these five your no-fail base must-haves for each webpage you create.

5 Easy Search Engine Optimization Tips

1. Page title - this is what appears in the blue bar at the very top of your browser window. This 'title tag' should list your keywords. If you leave your title out it will be listed by default as 'Untitled'. This is to be avoided as your title tag lets the search engines know what your webpage is about. Therefore, 'untitled' doesn't tell them anything other than you omitted the title. In a search engine's results the title tag is displayed so you want to keep it short and to the point using about 7 or 8 words. Ensure that all the pages on your site don't have the same title tags.

2. Metadata - this is coding found before your 'head' tag. Search engines used to use metadata for page rank much more than they do today, but don't forget your meta tags - for example Google differentiates between your webpages by using your metadata. List your keywords in your metadata leaving out words that aren't in your text.

3. Your domain name - if you want a boost in the search engine rankings it's advisable to use your keywords in your domain name. If your keyword is "weightloss tips" you should chose weightlosstips(dotcom) which will get a higher ranking for your keyword term than, for example, healthyeating101(dotcom.) Of course you have to make sure every webpage is fully optimized too.

4. Web page content - use a light peppering of keywords throughout your web page content but don't get overzealous and 'stuff' your pages. The search engines will regard that as a negative. As long as your web copy is relevant to your title tags and keywords you are OK. Think big picture and 'theme' your webpage. Use synonyms as well as your keywords so that your text reads properly.

5. Links - link to pages within your web site using your keyword as your link. This internal linking will inform search engines that the keyword has importance. Try not to link all over the place within your text as your theme will 'bleed'. Keep your theme tight by controlling where your links go out to, and remember this means content links here, not your navigational links.

Something to remember as you optimize your webpage content is to make sure that it reads well. Text that naturally flows and is well written will make your visitors feel like sticking around, and later returning; and by using these few, easy to implement tips, your webpages' search engine optimization will help you beat your competition.
