How To Index A 4000 Page Website?

This is common question.

First of all, Google looks for quality. It's hard for Google to index duplicate pages, so if you have identical pages get rid of them, or make them unique.

Ask yourself the question, do I have enough value on each of these pages? It will be hard to index pages with low value, with no unique content.

But assuming that is fixed - (having unique meta tags is recommended if you have a webmaster that can do it for you) your next step is to create a Google Webmaster Account, for free. Plus create a sitemap xml file using one of the free software available.

Then upload sitemap xml file to your Google Webmaster Account. It helps Google find all your 4000 pages fast.

Having a web based sitemap is also a good idea, but create it in a good manner that if a visitor lands on your page won't see a ton of links.

Do not for example put 4000 links one under the other. Put some sort of categories, subcategories - properly organized.

Truly, those changes will effect how the pages get indexed.

Make sure that each page of the 4000 pages (or more depending how many you have) is linking from somewhere. If you create a sitemap all pages will have one link from the sitemap.

But you can for example link one page to another that have similar content. For example there is a page about dog vitamins and another page about dog food. On the dog food page you can put text link:

Learn more about Dog Vitamins.

Link it to the dog vitamins page.

But only do this linking if it will provide the visitor value. If it truly is related page worth looking at.

Your visitors comes first, trying to cheat search engines will results in penalties and negative results! Google is highly advanced and getting more so.

Even if you have an article that talks about dog vets. Inside the article link to some other page related in some way or another. Maybe you have a page about dog health.

Why you do this?

So that spiders find all your 4000 pages by moving from page to page. The sitemap on your website helps find all your pages, the Google Webmaster Tools's sitemap.xml does same thing.

You want spiders to find your 4000 pages for them to get indexed. Get rid of any unwanted external links these pages may have - and make use of one common menu for all pages. Your website pages should be organized neatly.

Pages about dog food health should be organized in the folder called dog-food-health

Pages about dog vitamins should be placed in the folder called dog-vitamins

You are making your website valuable for your visitors - that's the aim of these techniques, that's what search engines want. Give them that and they index your pages - otherwise they do not need another bunch of 4000 pages.

There is something else you can do that is article submission. Submit articles and in bio link to the sitemap and to other pages of your website. This helps spiders find your website pages easier as well.

Article submission is the number one method to get them indexed. They will flood your website with backlinks and that's what spiders want to index pages - if a page has a lot of backlinks pointing to it, then it's worth indexing.
