Keyword Strategies For Long-Term Top Search Engine Rankings!

What is the keyword that you would love to have a first place ranking for on Yahoo and Google? Let's pretend you have started up your own website for internet marketing. How great would it be if you had that number one spot for the keywords "internet marketing?" Now, if you ever did have the goal of having the number one spot for this keyword phrase, and then you went and typed this phrase in Google, then you would probably think to yourself that your goal would be almost impossible to achieve, especially when you see that there are over 81 million results for this keyword phrase. Now, the question is, is it possible to compete and actually rank on even the first page with over 81 million results? Well, the real answer is "yes," it is possible to do this with almost any keyword phrase, but it isn't something that will happen with some "magical formula" overnight.

The real way to get your #1 search engine ranking for a really tough keyword phrase is to take things step-by-step. You see, a common mistake that webmasters will make is to try and optimize a website for that keyword phrase that has millions of websites competing for it. They will spend months and months trying to optimize and trying to make Google think that their pages of information on internet marketing are betting than everyone else. And the funny thing is that many people will make pages and pages of killer content that ARE better than everyone else's, but they still won't even get ranked on the first page of Google for their "target keyword phrase."

The reason why these webmasters don't succeed after months and months of trying is because they are trying to run a marathon without ever running a 7 minute mile. When you train for a marathon, you don't jump straight into that marathon. You run shorter distances for months in preparation for the big race. And when it comes to search engine ranking, if you want to get the number one rank for a highly competitive keyword, then you first need to get the number one rank for many of the less competitive keyword phrases.

So let's say that your "target keyword phrase" (the phrase that you really want the number one spot for) really is "internet marketing." What you need to do is first take the easier route of getting the number one spot for something like the phrase "internet marketing for beginners," which after doing a quick search only yields about 500,000 results on Google. So, you write articles, do blog posts, and create pages, optimizing your website for this keyword phrase. You soon discover that after a bit of work, it wasn't that hard to get to the first page of Google for the less competitive keyword phrase, so then you do the same thing over again and pick a different keyword phrases that aren't too competitive.

Let's assume it takes you a few days of article writing and optimization in order for you to get decent rankings for each of the less competitive keyword phrases. This would mean that after a year you would have well over 100 keyword phrases that you have dominated, and not to mention tons of free traffic to your website. After having achieved great rankings for all of the less competitive keyword phrases, then you may start to notice that your website will start getting decent rankings for your original "target keyword phrase." After all of this is said and done, you have dominated not only your original keyword phrase goal, but tons of other keyword phrases as well. Then your traffic is free and you will have top rankings for years to come!
