How To Start An Affiliate Website
Creating a website about your favorite topic is can be a big adventure. Many people do this to express their ideas, to engage in a community of like-minded people, or just to have some fun. On the other hand, many people are looking for a way to use the internet to earn some money by presenting information that they know something about. It's true, it is indeed possible to do this by creating an affiliate website.
What exactly is an affiliate website? Let's suppose you have an interest in dog training. Let's suppose you create a website that gives dog training tips to dog owners. If all you do is give this information away for free, then of course you won't earn any money. But it turns out that there are businesses out there that have products relating to dog training, such as dog training manuals, video, or supplies, and these companies are willing to give you a commission for each sale that you bring to them. So, you can earn money by promoting these products on your site.
Here's how it works. First, you must of course find the products or services that you wish to promote. For many information products, the best places to look are Clickbank and PayDotCom. These services are huge marketplaces for information products, and it is easy to sign up to become an affiliate to sell any of the products they offer. Another way to search for products is to search the web for products (such as dog training videos) and then search on the product website for any information about an affiliate program.
Once you sign up to become an affiliate for the product, you will at the very least receive an affiliate link. This is a link that links to the product website, but it has a unique identifier for you that notifies the company that a customer visited their website through your link. You will get paid by the company for any sales made through this link.
So how do you use this link on your website? One good way is to write a product review on your website or blog, where you discuss the product, recommend it, and provide your readers with your affiliate URL. Another good way is to create a graphic banner for the product and display this on your site. In many cases, the company itself will have graphic banners, also known as "creatives", that you can use.
When creating a website and monetizing it using affiliate programs, it is important not to sound too "salesy" when promoting a product. Yes, you can recommend the product, but keep your tone friendly and informational. People have become very good at spotting sales copy a mile away, and they will see plenty of it on the product website. What they want to see on your site is an honest discussion and recommendation. If there is anything you don't like about the product, then say so. Of course, if you hate the product, then you probably shouldn't be recommending it anyway.
It is also a good idea to have some sort of mailing list signup on your website. Plan to send out a newsletter to all your subscribers say once a week or so. Also, you can set up an autoresponder so that anyone who signs up will start to receive emails from you automatically. You can place some information and recommendations about affiliate products in your email newsletter. This is a great way to get more sales.
When creating an affiliate website, it is really important to have patience. It will take a while to get a significant volume of traffic to your website. You cannot expect to get traffic and sales immediately. But if you continue to put new content on the site and continue to write articles and continue to get backlinks, then eventually you will see traffic and sales from your affiliate efforts.
