Online marketing, website promotion, traffic generation, whatever term you use to describe your advertising methods can be very costly and in most instances a complete waste of your advertising dollar and your valuable time.

So it is reasonable to assume that if you are involved in trading online that you will require above anything else, a cost effective method of obtaining unique visits to your website which results in sales of your product, whilst at the same time growing your customer or opt in mailing list.

Before you even attempt to advertise your product there are a two extremely important details of your website that shouldn't be neglected.

1. Ensure that you have facilities on your website to capture email details of interested parties.

2. In addition to your major product, have an up sell product ready to promote to your prospect list.

Do not place this link at random as it might have no effect, you should use your sales text to draw the visitor to your product and it's at these varying conclusion points throughout your sales text that you must utilize your email harvesting technique.

Loads of sites, and I'm positive you have experienced this technique, are utilizing a drop down box which appears seconds after you have entered the website. This is the same as to a pop up, and angers your prospect and distract them from your message.

Always, when composing your sales message and your email capture method, place yourself in the shoes of your visitor, if the methods you are using annoy and distract you, then it's clearly obvious that the same will apply to your visitors. Always ensure that your website and your sales message are visitor friendly.

Once you have your visitors details, and no matter whether they have purchased your product you are promoting on your website, you now need a up sell, or follow up product. Your up sell product must be focused on a similar subject as your original sales information.

This is simply because, your visitor originally surfed your website seeking a unique type of product, so it stands to reason that this is the main area of their interest. For example, if you are promoting a diet product and you capture email details with the message then it would be pointless trying to up sell a product on say, dog care to these same surfers.

Have your up sell product prepared and ensure that it is related to your primary product.

Once you have everything in position your next step is the advertising of your site so you can begin building your contact list. There are lots of useful ways of online business promotion, my preferred method is the search sub engine.

Search sub engines offer a very useful and cost effective alternative to the more costly methods such as pay per click.

With search sub engines you have the chance to double sell your product in that you have multiple chances to get your sales message across.

By using this method you are guaranteed to eventually reach the top search result for your category due to the methods utilized by the search sub engine which rotates your business/site listing and gradually moves you to the top result. This is a massive bonus to any site owner and it it is only available with the search sub engine.

But you also have to play your part, and you can do that by telling all your prospects that your site is on the search sub engine. You may think that this is a way for the search sub engine to drive free surfers, and maybe it is, but it benefits all of us who use it if we all use these simple methods.

A search sub engine contains multiple categories and sub categories and as such, Lots of unrelated businesses utilize it's services, but at the same time, each and everyone of the website owners are also potential visitors for your website, and if every website owner informs their contacts and aquaintances, even though they might not be interested in their particular product, they might be interested in other websites.

So, by doing this we are helping one another to make the most of this form of website advertising. And, anything that has the potential to drive more prospects to your site for minimum outlay or even free should be promoted by its members to promote its service.

The search sub engine, in my opinion, is set to become the new monster in website and online business advertising and must be seriously considered when constructing your arsenal of advertising tools.
