Blog Comments: How to Post Your Way to Success

Blogging is probably the oldest of all of the Web 2.0 techniques. It has been around for awhile now, and most people online know what a blog is.

Although there are many ways to get involved in blogging, I built my blogs on the the Wordpress platform. It's one of the best things I ever did. The reason is that Wordpress blogs tend to rank better in the search engines than most other content management platforms, but more importantly, Wordpress offers a lot of features many blog platforms don't.

One of my favorites is now the ability to turn off blog comments on posts after a certain length of time. If you have a blog, you know what I'm talking about. You'll get blog spammers who come in on your old posts and post spammy comments unrelated to the topic of your blog. Or worse, they post comments that are just plain nasty and don't mean anything.

Like any other internet marketing technique, there is a right way and a wrong way to post blog comments. Blog comments will help you get traffic if you do it right, and it's a good way to build backlinks and get involved in the conversation online.

Even if you don't have a blog of your own, blog comments are still a great way to promote your business. It's a great way to get involved and get the word out about your business.

Here are some tips for getting the most from your comments:

1. Don't post "ditto" or "me too" comments.

These types of comments abound. They don't really do anything. If you want to really get involved in the conversation, engage. Write something meaningful. Express your opinion on a topic. Give out some information that is useful. This is how you really get the attention of others.

2. Use the right tools.

There are tons of time saving tools out there that help you post blog comments correctly, and many are free.

Comment Kahuna will help you find blogs that are related to your topic. Then you simply bring up the blogs you want to read and post comments. It includes a feature that no other blog comment software offers: Comment Luv.

Comment Luv is a Wordpress plugin. What it does is allow you to join the Comment Luv network of blogs. When you post a link to your blog on another blog, and both blogs have this plugin installed, a snippet from your last blog post will show up on the other blog. This gives your comment more relevance. Comment Kahuna, a free software, will help you find blogs on your topic, and you may also visit the Comment Luv site to search for other blogs.

Another good tool is Comment Sniper (also free). It allows you to customize the list of blogs you want to post comments to regularly.

When a blog post is made to a blog you are subscribed to, you are notified immediately as long as you are running the software. This allows you to be the first to comment. Others must scroll past your comment before posting their own. This will get you noticed.

Don't use tools that allow you to submit your comments to millions of blogs. Many of the blogs you submit to won't be relevant, and most blog owners will ban you from posting to their blogs again. The secret here is to find blogs that are relevant to your topic and contribute in a meaningful way to the conversation. (The tools I mentioned will help you do that.)

3. Post regularly.

Find at least five blogs a day. Don't worry if they use the "no follow" tag. (Most don't). The purpose of posting is to get involved in the conversation. Become a part of the community. The side benefit is that you will build relevant backlinks and drive traffic to your site.
