Web hosting in the Philippines is a lucrative yet competitive internet business. We can never hide the fact that the internet is full of web hosting scammers posing as a legitimate company and I have been a victim of one. When I started to put up my very first web hosting, I was scammed with my money and never heard from the owner ever again. But I was still determined to put up my website and find a web hosting, to my delight, I found a non-scammer seller of web hosting, but it was fairly new. The problems I had with my 2nd hosting was that, it wasn't reliable.

Reliability is one. A web hosting company or server is reliable when there are 0% down time. Which means, your site won't go offline. What I experienced is that, the web hosting is not that reliable and my clients who started to visit the site thought of me as unprofessional.

And so I went from one web hosting to another. Because of this, I gained a lot of experience about different web hosting company's strong and weak points. I decided to put up this blog so that people from the Philippines and all over the world may know first hand how a specific web hosting company does its business, their strong points, their weak points and how to deal with them.

Let's answer some questions first, what is web hosting? A web hosting company, either in the Philippines or anywhere in the world, is a company that will let you host your web files for all the rest of the world to see your site. More like an office space on the internet. It is different from a domain name, in which by our analogy, would be the name of the office. :) You have to buy the domain and hosting separately but there are some web hosting companies that offer both at an affordable price or either one of them is free.

Why do you need a web hosting? Businesses needs web hosting mainly because to gain exposure. Because of the nature of the internet, anything that can be published on the web, can be seen by everybody across the globe. So, businesses that caters to a large international audience may benefit from it. Also, those businesses that wants to push their business to the next level may want to put up a site so they can reach a larger customer base.

Also, people buy web hosting for personal use. There are house wives and moms that wants to share their experiences and write it in their website. There are people who uses web hosting to earn money online as well.

So what should we look for when signing up for a web hosting? First of all, look for reliability, customer reviews, excellent customer support and lastly the price. I will pay a large amount of money for a web hosting that would not go down on me and leave my site behind. Having a knowledge about web hosting will become handy for a business owner, so that, if you're on the edge of signing up, you know that you can sleep at night and have a peace of mind, knowing that you're not being scammed nor your site going down while you were asleep.
