At the People's Choice Awards this year the people chose Carrie Underwood, giving her the most wins of any single musician. This is not a huge surprise as the artist has been going strong since she first won American Idol in 2005. The song went to the top of the charts that year and the song won Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards. The lyrics tell the story of a girl who is not taking cheating lying down, and many women and men alike could sympathize with the lyrics "...I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up 4 wheel drive/Carved my name into his leather seats.../I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights/Slashed a hole in all four tires.../Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats." Something that not many of us would do, but something we can gleefully empathize with.

Underwood's latest win at the People's Choice Awards with the song "Last Name" proves that she is definitely still able to put her finger on the heart of American culture and give it what it is looking for. The song "Last Name" tells the story of a girl who gets "a little crazy" and wakes up the next morning in Vegas with a ring on her finger and no idea what the last name of the guy is. The genius of the song is that it does what country music is intended to do by drawing you deeper and deeper into the story before revealing the final Vegas twist. The lines from song's chorus "I don't even know his last name/Oh, my mamma would be so ashamed..." bring to mind the disapproving mother with an amusing note that everyone can relate to, so no wonder when the people chose, they chose Carrie Underwood. Underwood's winnings at People's Choice included Favorite Female Singer, Favorite Star Under 35 and Favorite Country Song for "Last Name."
