Green Day Tickets - New Album for Green Day in '09

A new year, a new Green Day album! The punk revivalists will (finally) deliver a brand new LP in 2009. The album will be the first since 2005's live album Bullet in a Bible. In recent years the guys of Green Day have kept busy with side projects like Foxboro Hot Tubs. Foxboro Hot Tubs, which also features Jason White, Kevin Preston and Josh Freese, released their debut LP, the garage effort Stop Drop and Roll!!! in 2008 and subsequently went on a brief tour. Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong also revived a former side project, Pinhead Gun Powder, in 2008. Green Day recently revealed plans to tour in support of their upcoming release on their website, so check online today for Green Day tickets to see the band live!

Green Day emerged out of the underground punk scene in the late '80s when their self-released debut EP 1000 Hours was an instant success. Childhood friends Bille Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar) and Mike Dirnt (born Mike Pritchard; bass) formed their first band, Sweet Children, in their native Rodeo, CA when they were just 14 years old, and by 1989 the lineup had expanded to include Al Sobrante (drums) and was re-christened Green Day. The newly minted band signed with local indie label Lookout after their debut on the strength of their debut EP and issued their debut LP 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour also in 1989. Tre Cool replaced Sobrante permanently on drums and Green Day continued to garner a cult following with the release of their sophomore full-length Kerplunk in 1992.

When Green Day released their second indie album a bidding war ensued; Reprise Records came out victorious and the band's iconic major-label debut Dookie was released in 1994. The album's lead single "Longview" received ample airtime on MTV and a second single, "Basket Case," enjoyed five weeks atop the American modern rock charts. That summer Green Day took the stage at Woodstock '94 and delivered an unforgettable show that propelled "When I Come Around" to the number one spot on the modern rock charts. Dookie sold over eight million copies in the U.S. alone (over 10 million internationally) and won the 1994 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance.

On the heels of scoring mainstream success with their major-label debut album Dookie, former underground alternative act Green Day released their next album, Insomniac, in 1995. Despite chart-topper "J.A.R." (which appear on the Angus soundtrack) and radio mainstay "Brain Stew/Jaded", Insomniac failed to match the success of Dookie. Green Day abruptly cancelled their European tour in the spring of 2006 (citing exhaustion) and stepped into the studio to record their next album. Released in 1997, Nimrod was followed by a three-year recoding hiatus. The long-awaited pop album Warning finally came in 2000 and then the band took an even longer break of four years before releasing the ambitious rock opera American Idiot. The 2004 album was a critical and commercial success and earned Green Day the best reviews of their career. Billy Joe & Co. hit the road in support of American Idiot, taking the stage at Live 8 in July 2005, and released a live album documenting their shows titled Bullet in a Bible, that fall.

After releasing their most political effort, the aptly titled American Idiot (I'm sure you can guess just who Green Day is calling an idiot,) the band recorded a cover of the Skid's "The Saints Are Coming" with U2. The proceeds for the song were used to raise awareness for musicians whose lives had been disrupted by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. In 2007 Green Day performed a version of John Lennon's "Working Class Hero" on American Idol and also appeared in The Simpsons Movie.
