When people ask what it takes to make a good beat on a beat maker, there is really no simple answer. The bottom line is that a beat maker should be able to do what you want it to do. In other words, when you have a beat stuck in your head and you want to get out for the rest of the world to hear, you better have the right software for the job.

In saying that, it is nice to know that you can get the right beat maker for the job without spending a lot of money. A good beat maker should have some standard features available at your fingertips. These include a 16-track sequencer. Each track should have its own volume control and any effect including filter envelopes, echo, reverb etc should be accessible to each individual track.

You will also want access to the beats per minute or BPM control. This is very important of course because each song, beat or mix will have a different tempo.
