Jane Monheit Tickets - From Diamonds to Diapers, Monheit's 9th Studio Effort
Jazz vocalist Jane Monheit recently released her latest studio effort, The Lovers, The Dreamers, and Me. Formerly the glamour girl of Legacy Records, the New York native is finally seeing a change of pace since becoming a mother. "Though I miss the 700 pounds of glitter a little bit - because, for God's sake, it's glitter! - I realize I don't need it to be beautiful. I don't need to be lathered with makeup and corseted to be beautiful," she says to cabaret author David Drake.
At just 20 years old the jazz vocalist earned first runner-up at the Theolonius Monk Institute vocal competition and eventually earned a contract with N-Coded before seeing Billboard success, Grammy nominations and collaborations with some of the world's best classical and contemporary singers, including Michael Buble, Ivan Lins, Terence Blanchard and Tom Harrell. As a sex symbol, Monheit wasn't just garnering attention in the classical capacity as her flowy brown locks and smooth, classically trained voice earned her serious mainstream attention. But with the birth of Jack, her first son eight months ago with husband Rick Montalbano, the sweet singer is trading in her glam for "fam."
"Motherhood has impacted me enormously," Monehit continues. "My priorities have changed so much. I can enjoy work in a way that I never could before, because I'm not taking it so seriously. I'm a completely different person in my work now...I have much more fun onstage! I'm not so concerned about everything being perfect all the time. Like, I can just let all of that go and enjoy the really fun parts of my work, because the really super important part of my life now is about being a mother. I don't have to be terrified about every little thing at work. It's just my job - it's the greatest job in the world, but it's just my job."
So much a part of her life now, Jack's favorite song "Rainbow Connection" made it onto her latest album, half of which she recorded when she was nine months pregnant, the other half when Jack was just a few months old. Her husband, traveling partner and drummer even made it onto the album, via a small vocal riff at the end of "I'm Glad There is You." "I referenced "I Love You, Porgy," because that's our song - my husband and I," she says to News Day. "One of our million songs, but that's sort of the main one."
This doesn't mean that she's totally putting her career on hold. No doubt with Jack at her side, Monheit began her national tour January 20th at Feinstein's at Loews Regency in New York before heading out to Hollywood's Catalina Bar and Grill. Performing both classic and contemporary covers - everything from Cole Porter to Fiona Apple - the album is her ninth, and first since turning 30. As the new album and her tour represents a new side of Jane Monheit, her tickets are sure to be something rare when found online, as the jazz artist is becoming even more popular with her renditions of Leonard Bernstein and Jimmy Dorsey.
To appreciate the artistry of Michael Kanan, the pianist on set, and her newfound sense of self, Jane Monheit tickets are a must have. "I'm so much happier now that I've simplified everything. I mean, I do still like to dress up [for shows], but I do it a lot less now than when I was younger. I used to tour the world with suitcases full of sparkling evening gowns. I would travel with ten pairs of shoes, a carry-on just for jewelry and a separate carry-on that was my professional makeup case. I was into it, man, into it," she describes to Drake. "Now, I'm good to go with a couple of little black dresses, a pair of shoes that goes with them, and a lot of diapers."
