Jane's Addiction Tickets - Jane's Addiction and Nine Inch Nails Confirm Tour
Jane's Addiction and Nine Inch Nails will co-headline a tour this summer, kicking off their 23-date journey May 8 in West Palm Beach, FL. The pair of rock bands will take the stage at the Sasquatch Festival at the Gorge in Quincy, WA among other stops and the only time Jane's Addiction won't appear alongside NIN is in Chicago May 29, adding more fuel to the rumors that Perry Ferrell & Co. will headline Lollapalooza in August. Frontman Farrell formed Jane's Addiction with bassist Eric Avery, drummer Stephen Perkins and guitarist Dave Navarro in the mid-'80s. The band captured their rock hybrid sound on their debut album, a live recording from the Roxy in Hollywood, and a bidding war among labels ensued. Warner Bros. emerged victorious and the label released the aptly-titled Nothing's Shocking in 1988. Despite the shocking nude sculpture on the album's cover coupled with their aggressive sound, Jane's Addiction found a mainstream audience and Nothing's Shocking enjoyed 35 weeks on the Billboard charts.
In 1990 Jane's Addiction released their true commercial breakthrough in the form of Ritual de lo Habitual, which soared to the Top 20 and went gold. Around this time Farrell designed Lollapalooza as a farewell tour for the band, with Jane's Addiction parting ways after the tour wrapped up in the summer of 1991. Farrell formed Porno for Pyros with Perkins in 1992 and the newly minted band released their debut the following year. Navarro formed Deconstruction with Avery and the group dissolved in 1994 after failing to release any albums, at which point he joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Porno for Pyros had split up by 1997, around the same time Navarro was leaving Red Hot Chili Peppers. Navarro joined his former Jane's Addiction bandmates on the Porno for Pyros' farewell tour and a Jane's Addiction reunion tour was slated for the fall, with Chili Peppers' bassist Flea replacing Avery (who was busy with his new band, Polar Bear.)
The newly reunited Jane's Addiction released Kettle Whistle, an album featuring live performances, demos and a handful of new tracks, before hitting the road. The album didn't do well on the charts, although the band was well received on the road, with fans happy to have Jane's Addiction back. A permanent Jane's Addiction reunion didn't result from the tour, with the band members splitting up again afterward to concentrate on other projects.
In 2001 Farrell released his debut solo full-length album Song Yet to Be Sung around the same time Navarro's solo debut album Trust No One arrived. Former Porno for Pyros bassist Martyn Lenoble filled in on bass for the second Jane's Addiction reunion tour and in 2002 Farrell, Navarro and Perkins stepped into the studio to record their first album of new material in over a decade. Chris Chaney (Tommy Lee, Alanis Morissette) was added to the lineup and Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Kiss) signed up to produced Strays, which surfaced in 2003, coinciding with the resurrection of Lollapalooza after a six-year hiatus.
The reunion would prove short-lived, however, as Jane's Addiction splintered again in 2004. Once again, the band members concentrated on side projects with Navarro, Perkins and Chaney forming the briefly existing band The Panic Channel and Farrell forming The Satellite Party with Nuno Bettencourt. Four years after last taking the stage together, the original lineup of Jane's Addiction performed at the first-ever NME Awards in 2008. Rumor has it that Jane's Addiction is currently working on a new album. While you wait for it, get your Jane's Addiction tickets to see them live with Nine Inch Nails!
