The former Canadian teen heartthrob, known mostly for his role on Degrassi: The Next Generation, Justin Nozuka is settling nicely into his latest North American tour, co-headlining with Aussie Missy Higgins. The 19 year old singer and songwriter has been touring the world, making tracks everywhere from Japan to Europe throughout 2008 and plans on settling back into the States (where he was born) for a early 2009 jaunt. The Canadian, who was born in New York but raised in Canada, has shows scheduled from February 19th through late March, ending in Solana Beach, California's Belly Up Tavern. Born to a Japanese father and American mother, Holly Sedgwick (sister is actress Kyra), Nozuka's musical style is reminiscent of Jason Mraz and Ben Kweller with a bit more soul and passion, making his pair with "Scar" singer Higgins an excellent match. "I feel so great with the way things are happening here [in the US]. One of the main things I dreamed of growing up was to play in front of a large audience, and it just feels incredible to be coming back around and to be playing bigger venues for more people," Nozuka said to LiveDaily. The young singer's debut, named after his mother, reached the sixth spot on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and showed the world just what a single mother's support and one young boy's passion, can complete.

"It popped in my head and felt perfect," Nozuka continued, in regards to the name of his album. "My mom was so supportive during the whole process. I was doing it independently and she really supported me and helped me out during the recording process, as far as all the financial stuff. I was just out of high school. I didn't have any money. That was a huge move for her to do; Also, just because she's my mom. I was going through a time where I started to really understand, "Wow, my mother has done a lot for me, including bringing me into this world.' She's a great woman."

Writing singles about lost relationships, and "telling a story," he says to FaceCulture, the young star writes songs that "massages his soul" as a way to heal through life's realities. The young star, who only just graduated from high school, may still be immature in his understanding of the world and its relationships, but his songs unveil a personality and conceptuality that is beyond his years. His website opens with this description: "blending elements of neo-soul, folk, old-time blues and pop, Justin has the guts of Ray LaMontagne and the soul of Lauryn Hill." As the young guitarist and vocalist becomes more confident with the stage (one reviewer commented that Nozuka seemed "very modest, but there was absolutely no reason. He had every eye on him...") and his capabilities, there is no doubt that this "happa" will turn the indie stage upside down with his style.

Organically embracing a unique confidence at such a young age (he turned down a record contract with Universal), the barely legal Canadian is bound to make loads more impressions as he hits up a few House of Blues, The Loft (in Atlanta) and The Fillmore.

Justin Nozuka did not play that role on Degrassi, his brother Philip did. Justin only appeared in one episode.
