Kings of Leon Tickets - Kings of Leon Among Lollapalooza Headliners
Along with the Beastie Boys, Depeche Mode and Jane's Addition, Kings of Leon will headline the 2009 edition of Lollapalooza, which will take place in its usual Windy City location in Grant Park August 7-9. Kings of Leon will also take the stage at Austin Limits; both are produced by Austin, Texas-based C3 Productions. The full Lollapalooza lineup is expected to be revealed in April, but Kings of Leon are the only band that wasn't even in existence when Lollapalooza debuted as a traveling multi-city festival in 1991. Kings of Leon sold out New York's famed Madison Square Garden in January and have a string of U.S. arena dates scheduled for April and May, so check online for sold out Kings of Leon tickets.
Kings of Leon and Jane's Addiction are both slated to headline the Sasquatch Festival May 23-25 at the Gorge in Quincy, Washington. Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell formed Lollapalooza back in 1991, but this year will be the first time the band will take the stage in its original incarnation. Jane's Addiction is also scheduled to co-headline a tour with Nine Inch Nails, which played the first Lollapalooza tour and headlined the festival in 2008.
A family affair, Kings of Leon is comprised of the Followill brothers Nathan, Caleb and Jared and their cousin Matthew. They ironically named their band after their father Leon, a Pentecostal minister who forbade his sons from listening to secular music. The eldest of the Followills, Nathan and Caleb, began listening to music by the Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash around the same time that their father resigned his post at the church. The pair joined forces with their younger brother Jared, who was already listening to the Velvet Underground and the Pixies, and their cousin Matthew and soon inked a record deal with RCA. Kings of Leon released the Holy Roller Novocaine EP followed by the Youth and Young Manhood LP in 2003; both efforts were produced by Petraglia and Ethan Johns, the sons of famed Who and Led Zeppelin producer Glyn Johns.
Although Kings of Leon were slow to secure success in their native country (they were written off as a Southern version of the Strokes initially,) across the pond they were an overnight sensation. The band released their sophomore full-length Aha Shake Heartbreak in 2005 after an extensive tour and Kings of Leon scored high profile gigs opening for Bob Dylan and touring in support of U2 on the strength of the album's success. Around the time they released their next album, 2007's Because of the Times, Kings of Leon's success in the States began to mirror their popularity in the U.K. The album spawned popular single "Sex on Fire," which landed at number 29 on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Kings of Leon released their fourth album Because of the Times in 2008 and proved they are much more than just a "southern version of the Strokes." The album peaked at number 25 on the Billboard 200 chart and the band received their first Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "Sex on Fire." The band's fame in the U.K. continues to grow, as well, as they were just awarded with two honors at the BRIT Awards for International Group and International Album. As their popularity in the States spreads, Kings of Leon tickets will be increasingly hard to come by, so get yours today!
