Learn How To Play Lead Guitar
Warning! Many students have started to learn lead guitar, and had their practices actually do more harm than good by initially developing bad habits with improper practice procedures. Do not even start trying to learn lead guitar until you have looked at these choices.
There are a small handful of things you must have in place and utilize if you want to learn lead guitar. The very first item you need to look at is your guitar pick. To learn lead guitar effectively, requires choosing the correct pick or picks. When I first Began to learn lead guitar, I used a picked called a stylus pick. The Stylus pick is a lead guitar training pick. The Stylus Pick was developed by a Shred Guitar trainer at the Berklee School of Music. While you learn lead guitar, it is very important that you develop your right hand motion as to not dip your pick more than 1/8 below the strings. The Stylus Pick keeps you from doing this. Note also, that the stylus training pick is just for training you with alternate picking, which is probably one of the most popular styles of picking that students begin with when they learn lead guitar.
After getting your picking speed up utilizing the Stylus Training pick, you will then want to move on to a very thick pick that also has a glossy finish. Never try to learn lead guitar, and gain any speed using a thin pick. It will not work. I use a pick called the Big Stubby for my everyday use, but I do still use the Stylus pick for warming up, and occasional practice sessions just to keep my alternate picking form.
The next choice to consider when you want to learn Lead Guitar is your guitar. All of the Ibanez guitars are specifically designed with a flat, shallow, and unpainted neck. This design allows you while you learn lead guitar to develop a great deal of speed. Most students when they learn lead guitar really want to master the art of shred guitar also.
If you do have an interest in developing your self as a shred guitarist, you will really want to look at the various forms of distortion that are available to you. The absolute best form of distortion to use as you learn lead guitar, and master shred guitar is found on the Line 6 amps. The Line 6 amps have a setting called Insane Go to a music store, plug an Ibanez guitar into a Line 6 amp, and give it a try. You will love the feel.
I have seen many guitar students as they learn lead guitar develop some terrible habits that took them years to break, and in some cases, were never able to break. To properly learn lead guitar especially to get to the level of shred guitar requires a scientific and systematic approach. You have to understand things such as how speed actually works, the three types of motion, and how to do the right exercises at the right time, just to name a few. Before you begin to learn lead guitar, get your basic tools in place such as the correct picks, a guitar you are comfortable with, and a systematic training system that will give you a handful of daily systematic training exercises and will allow you to make quantitative scientific measurements of your speed and right hand left hand coordination.
When you begin to learn lead guitar, you must take an almost robotic scientific approach from the very beginning. I have seen young students armed with the correct tools master lead guitar, and even become outstanding shred guitar players in a very short period of time.
