Nickelback Tickets - Nickelback Takes Over on Tour

Initially hailed as Canada's answer to Creed, Nickelback was the brainchild of vocalist Chad Kroeger, who formed the band in the late 1990s. Prior to forming Nickelback, Kroeger was the frontman of a handful of cover bands in Hanna, his tiny Canadian hometown located outside of Calgary. Kroeger eventually tired of playing other people's songs and moved to Vancouver to start fresh, soon enlisting his bass-playing brother Mike to form a band. Fellow Vancouver transplants Ryan Peake (guitar) and Ryan Vikedal (drums) were added to the lineup and the newly mined Nickelback released two albums, the Hesher EP and the Curb LP in 1996. Two years later, each band member was managing one component of Nickelback, with Chad delivering demos to radio stations, Mike handling distribution, Ryan Vikedal booking shows and Ryan Peake helming the group's website.

In 2000 Nickelback released their second independent album The State, which arrived when Canadian content requirements were increased, resulting in the album's success on indie charts. The band hit the road running, playing over 200 shows in support of The State alongside other post-grunge groups. Eventually record labels began to see commercial appeal lurking behind Nickelback's rough exterior, and the distribution rights to The State were snatched up by Roadrunner Records in the U.S. and EMI in Canada. While on tour, Kroeger continued penning new songs which the band honed in front of their expanding audiences. Many of those tracks appeared on Silver Side Up, an album produced by Rick Parashar (known for his work on Pearl Jam's 10, Alice in Chains' Sap and Blind Melon's eponymous debut.) The album's lead single "How You Remind Me" was a radio mainstay and propelled Silver Side Up onto album charts all over the world.

After churning out another radio-ready single "Someday," Nickelback released The Long Road in 2003. The album eventually sold over five million copies worldwide, but in the wake of its success Nickelback announced that Ryan Vikedal was exiting the band. Daniel Adair, formerly the drummer for 3 Doors Down, joined Nickelback in the studio as they set to work on their next album in Vancouver. All the Right Reasons topped the charts upon its 2005 release and boasted guest spots by ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Pantera's Dimebag Darrell (who sadly passed away before the album was released.) All the Right Reasons spawned five Top 20 singles, sold over seven million copies in the U.S. alone and remained in the Top 30 for over two years.

Veteran hit making producer Mutt Lange took notice of Nickelback and, after they traveled to his home in Switzerland, they decided to team up to work on the follow-up effort to their most successful release, All the Right Reasons. After stepping into a converted Vancouver barn to begin recording their sixth studio album, Dark Horse arrived in November 2008 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's lead single "Something in Your Mouth" remains in the upper tier of Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.
