Phish Tickets - Another Phish-Filled Summer

Three months after long-anticipated reunion shows at Virginia's Hampton Coliseum were announced, Phishheads across the nation spent the weekend rejoicing after the ultimate jam band went on record once again, unveiling plans for a summer 2009 tour. Phish recently announced 10 more tour dates that will take them into the end of June, playing shows on the East Coast and the Midwest (West Coast dates are yet to be determined).

Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman will jumpstart their much-anticipated string of tour dates in early March, as the quartet has already booked a trio of shows at the historic Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. This taste of Phish will continue in June as the legendary band plans to grace the scene of stages in New York (Wantagh), Massachusetts (Mansfield), New Jersey (Camden), North Carolina (Asheville), Missouri (St. Louis), Pennsylvania (Burgettstown), Indiana (Noblesville) and Wisconsin (East Troy), leaving out dates from June 11-14 while sparking speculation that Phish will partake in this summer's Bonaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, which takes place during this open time slot.

Phish will forever hold a place in American culture, the roots of this free-spirited group taking form in the late 1980s in the fertilized soil of the Grateful Dead. Emerging onto the music scene as a well-developed jam band (complete with free-form rock 'n' roll with jazz, bluegrass and folk inflections) Phish was resurrected out of the University of Vermont from students Trey Anastasio (guitar, vocals), Jon Fishman (drums) and Jeff Holdsworth (guitar) in 1983. After shuffling around band members and locations, Phish released its debut album Junta in 1988, a cassette-only release sold at local shows. The whimsical band sparked a craze on the East Coast starting in New England, releasing successive albums yet not gaining a monumental following until 1991, when the fledgling rock group embarked upon a nationwide tour.

In 1991, Phish scooped up a record deal with Elektra and began gain recognition as a phenomenal live band, focusing on live efforts while supplementing tours with dozens of albums. "Down with Disease," a 1994 hit song off the album Hoist, became an MTV hit, and Phish officially infiltrated the mainstream music scene thereafter. Phish's fame rose with the release of albums such as A Live One (1995), Billy Breathes (1996), Slip, Stich & Pass (1997), Story of the Ghost (1998) and Hampton Comes Alive (1999), next striking gold with 2000's Farmhouse, hailed as one of the band's all-time best albums. In the early 2000s, however, members of Phish started delving into other projects, still playing wildly popular live shows but slowly backing off new material.

2004 brought dreadful news for Phishheads, as the jam band announced its disbandment in that year following the release of the album Undermind. Live albums continued to be released regardless of Phish's status, and finally in 2008 the Vermont-based quartet surrendered to dedicated fans, announcing they would play three live shows at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. Tickets for the shows sold out in just seconds, and now Phish phans have even more of a reason to break out the tie-dye shirts and hemp accessories, as the nation's most highly regarded jam band is back on the radar and ready to kick off yet another nationwide summer tour. Phish tickets will sell out faster than lightning, so if you're into the experimental sound of this musical craze, get concert tickets online, dust off that hacky sack and make your way to the closest concert venue!
