Rachael Yamagata Tickets - The Elephant in the Room Sure Isn't Her Singing
She took away the marketing and PR aspect of her latest set to reveal her most personal material yet, and now, Rachael Yamagata, the indie folk artist who first gained fame when she provided backup vocals for Ryan Adams, is taking her guitar and her sweet vocals on tour. Her latest set, Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Heart has a bit more heart (not just in its title) as it delves into topics that are personal adventures for the New York City native. "I see it more as a fascination with human relationships and behavior...the struggles we create and the strength we gain," she said to Glide Magazine regarding her typically melancholy tone that sets in during her tracks. Her soprano voice has a bit of a tang to it, making the album not just another sweet set of tracks from a heartbroken hottie.
"I didn't set out to make a two part album," Yamagata continued with Glide. "We just followed the songs' lyrical lead and built them up with textures and sounds that served the story. The beautiful ones were darker and worked with lush arrangements. We used the sounds of rain, tree branches falling on the roof whatever kept the mood true to this haunted studio in the first storm days of spring. The second part became more anthemic, like a reclaiming of personal power. There's something raw about it. To me it sounds weathered, but not broken or cynical." Already the two disc set has gotten critical acclaim from all ends of the spectrum, from Entertain Weekly ("Yamagata's delivery is gorgeous") to Spin ("add some cheap scotch and you've got a John Cassavetes movie"), helping it jump to Yamagata's best yet.
Following her commercially successful debut Happenstance, which was led off by "Be Be Your Love," "Collide," "Paper Doll" and "Meet Me By the Water," singles which appeared in films including Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, In her Shoes, Trust the Man and Prime, as well as the television shows One Tree Hill, ER, and The O.C. After friends like Ray LaMontagne and Ryan Adams used her vocals on some of their latest albums, Yamagata used them in return for her latest set.
Though she's only been on the indie circuit for about three years, gaining headlines providing backup for everyone, even Jason Mraz, she landed a recording contract with Arista's Private Music in 2002. After the self-titled EP appeared she released Happenstance in 2004. Rachael Yamagata tickets are bound to move quickly online as the indie act sees more mainstream success with her latest effort.
