Adopting Foster Children:Who Deserves It?

I've known several people who have adopted a child. They treat these children like their own. They provide their basic needs (and sometimes more than that!). They try to give everything that is needed--they provide them an opportunity to be a productive person as what each on every one of us is striving. However, if we think in -depth to this discussion, we would surely realize that there is a flaw that needs to be polished--the idea on how to choose a recipient that really deserves this welfare.

Japanese people for example are citizens that are really enthusiastic with regards to fostering children; their adopted ones call them satoya (Japanese for foster parent). They reach even out of their homeland to search for beneficiaries--usually in the third world. However, fostering distant children (outside the country) causes them to have child qualification mismatch: the real living status of the possible recipient; their life prior to possible adoption; their capacity of living life without the assistance from others. Yes, this is common in fostering especially if we do not consider building and imposing standards for adoption.

In the Philippines, several foster children (beneficiaries of Japanese foster parent) do not match with the qualifications but still availing this act of welfare. Commonly, those who availed are not really the ones who need it. Those who avail education sponsorship for example have been granted scholarship already by the government in their country or simply their parents (real parents) have the capacity for their education. Those who are recipients of nutrition program have been in a place of bountiful harvest already--selection process implemented has been poor.

Those who want to adopt must always bear in mind the importance of imposing standard specifically in selection process. Their standard of living--their capacity for living--shall always be magnified to avoid mismatch in fostering. Everyone should remember (especially when adopting in third world), not all countries belong in this region are really very poor; a number of citizens in these countries are victim of unequal distribution of benefits of economic growth and some are just enjoying their lives already. Therefore, those who want to adopt must be careful in choosing; there are children who deserve more than others--why not choosing the option of adopting deserving street children?

Based on data acquired through survey conducted by one Non- Government Organization in the Philippines, there is a significant number of street children that have potentials to excel in education if they would be always given chances to acquire education. The have the capacity to compete over the other children whether in academic or non-academic subjects. Therefore, adopting a child would have a higher degree of implication for your social awareness if you choose to adopt the kind of children mentioned. Adopting children that are totally abandoned by their biological parents or just their real parents have passed away is a great opportunity for foster parents to promote social welfare to those who need it most.

Adoption of this kind of children would lead you to question on where to visit when you intent to do such. Well, the most important step is to visit government entity who temporarily housed these children. In the Philippines for example (again), you can visit the Department Of Social Welfare and Development. You can also coordinate with the religious institution in your places for you to have knowledge on what are in need to be done for children adoption. There you can find children that really need your care and affection. Children who need foster family. You can apply for adoption and then follow the rules and regulations bounded by the agreement and guidelines.

The bottom-line is...people should realize the idea of imposing standard for adopting foster children and so to be able to choose who really deserve it.
