Speed Up By Slowing Down
We all agree we have more to do than time to get it done, the truth be told most have the time to get it all done we just don’t use our time in a profitable manor. Financial planners all suggest that we write down every purchase we make so that a budget can be created and followed in order to save money. Well is our time not also valuable? It may well be the most valuable time we have. It is an easy excuse that everyone uses I just don’t have the time. With a little common sense planning you can free up some much needed time and convert some chore time to family time.
Spend your first week, seven days, 168 hours as usual except get a day planner and write down what you did and how long you did it. At the end of the week take a look at what you did and see if there are any chores errands that then to repeat themselves. I was quite surprised to discover or maybe realize the fact that I went to the grocery store 4 times in one week it dawned on me that I go to the store several times every week. In order to reduce trips to the grocery store make a pre printed check list on your computer you can easily add to the list as needed. Print out your list and simply check off the items you need to get keep the list in a convenient spot in the kitchen so everyone can check off items that are needed. Advise your family there will be only one trip to the store per week so put it on the list.
Another excellent way to conserve time is to change or combine basic chores into family time. Assign everyone in the family a meal day. Everyone will be responsile for one meal per week they will be able to decide what to have for dinner and make sure the ingredients are in stock or are on the grocery list and they will be responsible for preparing the actual meal. Now obviously the age of your kids will dictate how much they can do. The younger ones will need more help which is also a nice way to spend a little extra time with them. The older ones should be able to cook a meal by themselves but this doesn’t mean you have to leave the kitchen you can spend the time paying bills or cleaning up the area this gives you a good chance to talk with your teenager and it also helps teach them some basic life skills.
One of the other big factors in saving time is to be organized if you have to clear the table of school books, coats or whatever in order to set the table for dinner you need to organize a good coat rack to hang up those book bags and coats will go along way to eliminate clutter and save some of your highly valuable time.
