The Science of Getting Rich: 7 Principles from Chapter Twelve

"Efficient Action"

In his course, Simpleology 101, Mark Joyner says to keep hitting the target until you hit it. You need focus, and you have to stay focused on your target all of the time.

Wallace Wattles calls it "efficient action." It means taking the actions that take you closer to your goals.

He outlines seven principles:

1. You advance by being larger than your present place.

What this means is that you have to grow in the position you are currently in and then outgrow it. If you have a job, you do all of the things you are supposed to do, plus you do extra. Continuous growth contributes to reaching your goal providing it is related to what you want.

2. Every day is a successful day or a failure.

Are you doing things that are taking you closer to your goals or further away from your goals? In order to reach your goals, you have to do something every day that will put you closer and closer to your goals. Ask yourself if what you are doing will take you closer to what you want.

3. All it takes is for you to take that one right action to set everything in motion.

Without action, nothing happens. Without the right action, you will fail at achieving what it is you really want. Again, take action that takes you closer to your goal.

4. Do every day ALL that can be done that day.

In her book, "You Can Walk on Water," Lisa Diane tells the story of Ivy Lee and Charles Schwab. Schwab hired Lee to improve the performance of his managers. Lee spent 15 minutes with each one teaching them how to become more productive. Each had to write down six things he would do each day to increase his productivity.

The productivity of Schwab's managers increased so dramatically after only 90 days that he sent Lee a check for $35,000, a small fortune in those days.

5. Failure is caused by doing too many things in an inefficient manner.

In order to succeed, you can only put those things on your "to do" list that are absolutely essential to your success. You need to ask yourself what things don't have to be done and cross those things off immediately. Do only the essential actions, and take at least one step each day that will put you closer to your goals.

6. You have to see it in your mind and then take action in that direction.

Start by imagining exactly what it is you want. You need to be specific. Then decide what steps you need to take to get what it is you want. If you don't know how to do this, then there are a couple of things you can do.

First, look at peopple who have been successful at what you do. Find out how they did it. It will help you figure out the steps you need to take.

You may also sit down and write out your ultimate goal. Work backwards and start from your goal and write down the steps you need to take.

7. Spend your leisure hours contemplating the picture.

This means thinking about what you want. You need to see it in your mind. If there are any smells, tastes, or feeling associated with what you want, then smell, taste, or touch it. Make what you see as vivid as possible. The more vivid your dreams, then the easier it will be to make them a reality.
