Your Subconscious Mind--Liberator Or Captor?

In 1994, I began studying the subconscious mind. I became a hypnotherapist, and hypnotized thousands of people. I've done everything from past-life regressions and exorcisms to more traditional therapy work. I've helped a lot of people do some pretty amazing things by way of their subconscious mind.

I guess that's why it irks me when I hear and read about the subconscious from people who obviously don't have a clue. When I hear the subconscious described as a kind of "Savior," I almost want to laugh.

Don't get me wrong. A properly channeled subconscious mind can literally work miracles. It saddens me, however, that I see this so rarely today. Unfortunately, this part of our mind brings most of us the most intense pain and despair imaginable. Let me explain.

The subconscious is neither good nor bad. It has only one goal: Your survival. Your subconscious programs run constantly in the background, and are responsible for your heart beating, breathing, healing, and many other things you may never be aware of. It will do whatever it takes to see to it that you live another day. Sounds good, doesn't it?

Now for the nasty part: It doesn't care how you live, just as long as your body stays alive. Contrary to what you might have heard, your subconscious mind doesn't want you to be happy. It doesn't care if you're hopelessly poor, in an abusive relationship, or are facing serious prison time. As long as you're breathing, it's OK.

For this reason, your subconscious mind fights tooth and nail to maintain the status quo, and will always work to bring you what you've had in the past. Even though your past might have been extremely painful, at least you survived it.

Creating enormous wealth in your life is foreign, and therefore might not be safe. If your mind is not properly programmed, it will block your efforts to create that which you really want. This is why you feel "stuck" and unable to affect any real change in your life.

Many people blame their situation on karma, demons, or it's "just not God's will for me to have money." This way of thinking is a cop out.

How do you know if you're programmed for success? Take a look at your bank statement. If the end of the month is consistently stressful for you, then you definitely need reprogramming.

So how is this done? If the subconscious mind is hell bent on keeping things just the way they are, how do you get around that?

Well, fortunately for us the subconscious is stupid in some ways. You see, it doesn't know the difference between what's real and what's imagined. So, if you consistently imagine a new event, eventually the subconscious accepts it as real, and that event becomes part of the status quo! How cool is that?

The key word in the previous paragraph is "consistently." I've seen so many people imagine a scene in their minds for 5 minutes every day for a week, and then give up because they didn't see any results. It takes a while for the subconscious to absorb this and embed it with our current reality.

For this reason, it typically takes a bare minimum of about 30 consecutive days to affect change in your life this way. I recommend a 20 minute session when you rise in the morning, and another 20 minute session before you go to bed at night.

What should you be imagining during these sessions? Well, since you are going to be creating what we hypnotherapists call a "false memory," you'll need to incorporate all your five senses. Your vision alone is not enough.

If it's money you're after, imagine what having that money would look like? How would your life be different? What would a typical scene from this new life be like? Maybe you'd be driving your new Porshe with the top down.

You'd feel the wind blowing through your hair, smell the interior of the car, taste the chewing gum in your mouth, see the blueness of the sky, and hear the voice of your dream partner or your favorite song on the radio. The more you incorporate your senses, the more you blend with the scene, and the more powerful this image becomes to the subconscious.

Soon, your subconscious mind believes this event really happened, and you dissolve a blockage to your success.

If this seems like a lot of work to you, then you'll probably never do it. You'll continue to work your job, live with the frustration of repeating the same cycles over and over again, and wonder why nothing you ever do seems to make one bit of difference.

But hey, at least you're alive.
