The Mindset of Attracting Success

Attracting success can be better comprehended with understanding thenature of thoughts. "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." Napoleon

Hill eloquently stated; “What the mind can perceive and believe it can achieve.” This concept embraces the whole of a man's being, and is so complete as to reach out to every circumstance of his or her life. A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.

Attracting success is through the mind, and as your character can manifest itself through environment and circumstance, the outer conditions of a person's life will always be found to be related to his inner state of thought.

Every man is where he is by the law of his being; the thoughts which he has built into his character have brought him there, and in the arrangement of his life there is no element of chance, but all is the result of a law which is universal in nature. This is just as true of those who feel "out of harmony" with their surroundings as of those who are contented with them.

We are buffeted by circumstances so long as we believe to be the creature of outside conditions, but when we realize that we are a creative power, we then becomes the rightful master of ourselves. The soul attracts success in the same way that it attracts that, which it loves, and also that which it fears; it reaches the height of what it aspires to; it falls to the level of its unwanted desires.

Take for instance a circumstance that you do not want. The universe cannot differentiate your positive and negative thoughts in motion; only that you are “putting out or presenting,” a certain vibration. It may be an undesirable one for you, but one that you will be attracting nonetheless because of your attention to it.

Every thought-seed sown or allowed to fall into the mind, and to take root there, produces its own, blossoming sooner or later into an act and bearing its own fruit of opportunity and circumstance.
Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bad fruit.

To attract success, however, we must first understand the difference between a “good” thought and “bad” thought. After all, didn’t we just state that a good thought will attract “good” circumstance, and a bad thought a “bad” circumstance? Let’s take an example of two separate individuals, for the sake of this example, John and Frank. John and Frank grew up right near each other in similar circumstances. Both have middle class upbringings, were well educated, and have loving families. John and Frank both attended college, and were presented with the same job opportunity right out of school with a prestigious firm. They were offered minimal wages, but an internship where they could work hard and learn and with efforts climb the corporate ladder.

John is very excited. He wakes up each day with a pressed shirt, shows up early to study and learn, and will jump in to question and offer assistance whenever possible. He works late when necessary and shows enthusiasm about the opportunity that he has been granted.

Frank, on the other hand, is not so excited. He’s not crazy about working so hard, wants to immediately be on top of the corporate ladder, and feels he should not have to pay his dues so to speak, since he has a college degree and has already worked hard. He shows up late sometimes and with a bit of an attitude, and feels as if he already “knows it all.”

There may be several reasons for the two having such different experiences in thought and behavior. We can only begin to imagine. However, if we take a moment to break this down to fundamentals, regardless of perceivable slight differences in their upbringing, aren’t their circumstances pretty much the same?

John is aware of the fact that the power to direct his circumstances is within him, not outside of himself. He seizes the moment; his thoughts are in check and are directing him towards attracting success. Frank, on the other hand, believes his circumstances are outside of him.

“Someone or something” has put him in this demeaning position. He feels smarter than, better than, and not appreciative of his circumstance. His thoughts are negative and ones that can only attract more of what he is presenting; failure and a spiraling of closed doors and lack opportunity.

Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the Law of his being.

The circumstances, which a man encounters with suffering, are the result of his own mind. The circumstances, which a man encounters with gratitude, are the result of his own mental harmony. Gratitude, not material possessions, is the measure of right thought; wretchedness, not lack of material possessions, is the measure of wrong thought. A man may be cursed and rich; he may
be blessed and poor. Blessedness and riches are only joined together when the riches are rightly and wisely used; and the poor man only descends into wretchedness when he regards his lot as a burden unjustly imposed.

Let a man radically alter his thoughts, and he will be astonished at the rapid transformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life. A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but
he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, shape his circumstances.

The world is your kaleidoscope, and the varying combinations of colors, which at every moment it presents to you are the adjusted pictures of your ever-moving thoughts.
