We Can Change the Course of Our Lives with an Attitude of Gratitude

Our attitudes can change the course of our lives for better or for worse. There is a place in our minds called Grumbling Street. People who live there never enjoy good health. The air is bad; the house is bad; the water is bad; and the birds never come and sing in the street. We are fighting against everything that isn't going our way. We allow our frustration to turn to resentment. We allow our situations to drain our joy, our energy, and our enthusiasm.

But we can move to Thanksgiving Avenue where we can have good health to share with all the family. The air is pure; the house is good; the sun shines on it all day; the birds are always singing; and people are happy as they live. These people still have challenges. They have wisely turned their situation over to God and are resting peacefully knowing that God will bring them through it. There are plenty of houses to rent on Thanksgiving Avenue.

We can change the course of our lives and find ourself a new person if we will only come to Thanksgiving Avenue; not only that but our neighbors will be glad to have us for a neighbor. We can soar like an eagle and leave the chickens on the ground. An eagle soars above the storm. We can turn our storms over to God by making the conscious decision not to allow anything to upset and bother us anymore. This world was not intended for a "vale of tears," but as a sweet "Vale of Content."

Travelers are told by the Icelanders who live amid the cold and desolation of almost perpetual winter, that "Iceland is the best land the sun shines upon." In the long Arctic night, the Eskimo is cheerful while amid the glorious scenery and Eden-like climate of Central America, the native languages have a dozen words for pain and misery and sorrow and only one word with any cheerful signification. When a Persian king was directed by his wise men to wear the shirt of a contented man, the only contented man in the kingdom had no shirt.

One of the best ways to build our faith and keep ourselves encouraged is to gather together with our friends and family as well as our business partners to celebrate our victories, successes, and the good times. We can change the course of our lives by remembering the times God directed our steps and caused us to be in the right place at the right time to receive His blessing.

By staying in an attitude of gratitude, we can change the course of our life from that of a victim to that of a victor; from someone who is addicted to one who is healthy. Remembering where we came from is one of the best ways to stay encouraged. We need to stay sensitive to what happens to us so that we can recognize when God is working in our life. Recall that incident often to stay in an attitude of gratitude.

We can also change the course of our lives by keeping an "Attitude of Gratitude" journal. We can write down the wonderful things that have happened to us that we know in our heart are things that God has done for us. When we are going through difficult times, this journal will lift us up and get us through the day.

Content is the magic lamp which, according to the beautiful picture painted for us by Goethe, transforms the rude fisherman 's hut into a palace of silver; the logs, the floors, the roof, the furniture, everything being changed and gleaming with new light. Once we get a new perspective, we can change the course of our lives.

We do not have to live upset and frustrated. In the end it will all work out to our advantage through our faith in God. An attitude of gratitude will change the course of our lives to one of health, wealth, and loving relationships, especially with our God.
