Which of These Qualities Do You Possess for Success?

Tags: , ,

The qualities for success are many. Everyone seems to have different ideas of what essential properties one must possess to achieve any level of financial or personal success. Zig Ziglar, the great motivational speaker, thought there were thirty (30) different requirements for success which are Honesty, Humor, Friendliness, Confidence, Integrity, Persistence, Humility, Goal Setter, Decisive, Hard Worker, Learner, Positive Mental Attitude, Compassionate, Disciplined, Dedicated, Faithful, Dependable, Knowledgeable, Communicator, Loving, Enthusiastic, Motivated, Patient, Loyal, Organized, Good Listener, Empathetic, Self-Respect, Common Sense, and Character... If you look in the bible, Galatians 5:22-23 tells us "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." It seems that you will get a different answer based on the source. Therefore to achieve a better understanding of the subject, I pose, what I think are a few important questions.

Am I born with the qualities needed for personal success?

Most certainly, we all are born with the tools or talents necessary to excel in life. The bible teaches "For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that", 1 Corinthians 7:7. We are not all born with the exact same talents, but we are all born with them. The problem comes about because we also come with a free will and the ability to make choices. It seems that most choose to settle into mediocrity with our lives, occupations and relationships. We must step forward by recognizing and developing out gifts to the best of our ability.

Do all possess these qualities equally or do some have special advantages?

No, we do not all possess equally and some do have special advantages. Take for example two employee recruits for a sales department of a company. The first person has on the job sales experience and comes with the highest credentials and reputation. The second seems to possess no special talents and has never worked in sales before but has a good attitude. You would expect the experienced employee to completely outperform, but such is not always the case. Maybe the experienced person comes to work everyday and can not wait until Friday, while the new person comes to work with the attitude that he loves what he does and does what he loves. If you take into account the intangibles of success, I think you would have to say that special advantages exist for those who apply and develop the qualities of success to the task at hand.

Which qualities are the most important?

I believe the most important quality one must possess is love. Deep love can only develop when we apply many of the characteristics of personal success. Whether you look at love in a relationship or as a quality of achievement, trust and loyalty must go hand in hand or you are not building a solid foundation. A healthy pinch of honesty is required, for we all know what happens when something is built upon untruths. A dab of total commitment and perseverance goes a long way; for without this we could never negotiate the difficult terrain of a relationship or a complex task. Stir in a cup of passion, for is it better to just go through the motions or actually feel the emotions that stir ones soul? Be a good listener or you may miss the most important insights or road signs that determine the best and fastest route to your happiness and success. Next in importance has to be mastery of time management skills. We must have the instinctive wisdom to know what tasks are productive or the intuition to identify areas of profitability toward reaching our goal. We can not miss our intended target by wasting precious time tending to trivial pursuits because we are afraid to step out of our comfort zone and act. Accountability for our actions and inactions is an essential quality to possess and is the stairway to respect, trust and promotion. Be valiant and impossible to defeat or your intended goal may fall short because of criticism or negative bias by others. Our mission must come from the place of serving others in order to achieve success. Finally, being a leader gives others a role model to look up to, emulate or even surpass.

How do I develop qualities for success?

It is my opinion that most principles of success about business and life come from the bible. Mathew 7:7 states "Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" Look into the mirror to determine what lies deep within and what is missing. Learn about yourself so you can repair and develop what is lacking. Write your list of goals (destinations) and then go on an internal road trip starting from where you are now to your destination. While on this journey, seek out and study all you can about self improvement. You should be able to say that you work harder on yourself than anything else. Study the lives of successful and famous people and try to emulate their skills for your betterment. If along the way something pulls you in a different direction, reaffirm your why and always keep the destination in mind. Make the journey fun, adventurous and life changing. Be the fish that swims away from the school and embarks upon a life changing adventure. The qualities for success are elusive for most people but if you know your destination and know what you need to look for along the way you will always arrive knowing you are the best you can be.
