WHY DO PEOPLE RESIST CHANGE WHEN CHANGE COULD MAKE THEM RICHER and HAPPIER?
Tags: richer, happier, change the buzz word
Change is the buzz word of this season. Every time I turn the television or the radio on I hear people talking about change. What is it about this word that has made it so popular? Could it be that people are looking for change more than the want to admit? What kinds of change are they looking for? Is it social, personal change or political. The change that is being discussed through the media right now is pretty much social or political, because people want to see change in the government. I would like to discuss personal change, because when people learn to change themselves and their situations form ordinary to extraordinary, they will learn to accept and appreciate change at other levels. For example many people in the network marketing industry are embracing change that is helping them to make a lot of money online.
Change can be difficult, but it is an important part of life. James Belasco and Ralph Stayer shed some light on this when they wrote: "Change is hard because people overestimate the value of what they have—and underestimate the value of what they may gain by giving that up." and W.H. Auden took a similar view when he said: “We would rather be ruined than changed, We would rather die in our dread Than climb the cross of the moment And let our illusions die.”
What change do you need in your life right now? Is it your job, spouse, your way of thinking, your place of worship, your eating habit, your attitude toward others or the way you view yourself? People in general try to resist change, even though change is inevitable. Of course we experience change every day, because if we did not we would be board to death.
My son wants a new game for his play station every week, because he is board with the ones he has; he wants something different. Note I did not say he gets one every week, because he does not. I would rather buy him a book every week. He does not want to eat oatmeal for breakfast every morning; he wants to change the foods he eats.
He does not wear the same clothes to school everyday. I understand where my son is coming from and I know you do too. So why do some people resist certain kinds of change when change is a way of life? Some people are even resisting this great way to making money on line. Although people resist change for several reasons, I believe the biggest reason is fear and doubt of the unknown.
We become comfortable with our lives the way they are almost to a point of complacency and we call it security. People resist change because they lack the patience to see the process through. They do not want to commit because, it might mean that extra energy has to be exerted, brain power has to be challenged and time has to be spent productively.
They do not want to disrupt their present lives, because it might take too much effort to start something new. They are afraid of disappointments. They may have gotten hurt before, perhaps when they changed a job and found out that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Ask questions of yourself about the change you desire.
For example, what do I need changed? Is it my way of thinking, the way I use my time or even the way I show gratitude? Do I enjoy my vocation? Am I weary and heavy-laden? When we carry stress, it affects our performance. The good thing is; we do not have to live with stress because Jesus said:
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (Matthew 11:28-29).
As a matter a fact, He will help you to embrace change, if you yield to Him. When you do this it is much easier to master the art of living and making money online.
