How To Make Your Aquarium Really Stand Out
For many hobbyists, keeping aquariums is a wonderful way of both whiling away the time and learning how to take care of aquatic life. It does not matter if you have a fish tank that houses marine life, brackish water thriving fish, or freshwater creatures - fish keeping is a relaxing hobby that appeals to children and adults alike.
These days, it is not about just taking care of the fish. It is now all about creating a thriving and sustainable environment for the fish. This means that decor is no longer limited to just a plastic toy mermaid right in the middle of the tank. Here are some tips on how to make your aquariums really stand out.
1. Let us assume for one moment that you have every piece of hardware and paraphernalia you would need to sustain a tank. Your next step is to think outside the box - or rather, outside the aquarium itself.
Lighting should be an integral part of any aquarium. But you might also want to consider it as another option to make your aquarium really become eye-catching. If you have a rather colorful collection of creatures, you might want to add UV lights or black lights to the tank. Some life forms take on a whole new dimension under these lights.
Additionally, you can set up different colored lights somewhere nearby and direct them towards the actual aquarium to give it a more dramatic look without affecting your pets' daily existence.
2. Remember those rolls of plastic backdrops that people sometimes attach to the back of the aquarium, the ones displaying aquatic vegetation and the like? Well, you can drop those like hot potatoes because there are so many better options than that.
Depending on the internal environment you have within, you can either choose a plain backdrop, no backdrop, or a crazy backdrop that contrasts sharply with your life forms within the fish tank.
Depending really on your present whim, you can place a lot of things in there. How about Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe reproduction? Or even a picture of a great white shark that is about to strike. Or the interior decor for a house (complete with pictures and memorabilia) might also provide a touch of humor.
3. Choose your fish tank decor carefully. One way of really, really attracting those long hard stares (for your aquarium, of course) is to make your fishy environment look abundantly flourishing with life. If you have a soft spot for aquatic plants, then plant away. Nothing relaxes the eyes better than the soft movements of a green landscape. Your pets would love these as well since some of them can be edible, and may provide shelter too.
If plant life is really not your thing, you could add in some coral and large rocks to the set up. Try to arrange these in such a manner that there are spaces between them so that your collection of aquatic creatures can actually swim around or rest peaceably on them.
4. You could also try having a community tank or an aquarium with various species co-mingling successfully with one another. The stunning display of the fish alone is bound to make your aquarium stand out. Make sure though that the fish are capable of sharing space successfully.
