Puppy Training - Should You Start While Their Young?

Puppy training early is a must. Before you begin, take some time to gain your puppy's trust; this will make things go that much smoother. Only when the surroundings are favorable will your puppy be susceptible to what it is you are trying to relay. Puppies are not too much unlike children, everything is new and wonderful so their attention span is very limited.

You can start training your new puppy the moment you get them home, but keep it light. In particular, at around 2 months, one should start getting their dog to behave more sociable. Training your puppy early is also an ideal way for both puppy and owner to form an unbreakable bond. Leave the obedience training for later on; say around 2 to 3 months. Hold off on the heavier stuff like "Heel", "Stay", and "Fetch" etc. until your puppy at least reaches the 3-month mark.

Puppies may not fully understand what it is you are trying to convey, but they will react favorably when they realize the rewards are positive. Each puppy is unique and probably the best person to greatly understand a puppy's mannerism is its owner. Understanding in puppy training is a two-way street and as a pet owner understanding this will greatly reduce stress. It's up to us, as humans to help our puppies to understand our language, but you'll provably find that it's our tone of voice more so then the words they react to.

With a properly embedded attitude, your puppy will grow-up with better self-confidence and show little signs of fear and reluctance when it encounters new things. A socially well-grounded dog will better deal with other dogs and people. The main thing to bear in mind when teaching your puppy how to behave in public and ever changing circumstances, is to keep the mode positive and fun, this way your dog will be happy to try new experiences and won't let fear hold it back.

Puppies that have been properly obedience trained tend to be happier, more productive and are generally a safer member of the family. Experts reveal that it's in your puppy's first 8 weeks that critical behavior and obedience development take place. Unruly puppies tend to be reckless and possibly dangerous.

Understanding your puppy's personality will present you with greater opportunities to tackle training exercises. Trying to train a puppy when you don't have its attention can be very stressful and counter productive. Food can be used to gain your puppy's attention and given as a reward, and eventually replaced with toys and lots of phrase. The amount of attention your puppy can give any one thing, depends on the age, breed and maturity of your puppy, so it's best to keep the training sessions under 10 minutes till your puppy gets the hang of things.

Hopefully by the age of around 12 to 24 weeks you'll be able to shift things up a gear and start your puppy on some basic training. With the correct implementation of boundaries and lots of phrase, you'll have a devoted and well-behave companion for many happy years to come.
