Things you need to consider before adopting a new dog
Dogs are created special from one another. The dissimilarities in behavior and character among dog breeds can be compared to dissimilarities in people. Knowing the perfect match between the dog breed and the owner or family is the key to success in bringing a dog into your residence.
Dogs come in a lot of varieties that are naturally introduced to the dog world along with those produced specifically by cross-breeding, like Labradoodle which is a cross of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle.
You should ask your family what kind of dog you can take care. Having a home with a big yard can be enough room for a large dog to run and also play.
Do you wish for a dog breed that is strong, yet cuddly and good with children? Are you hoping of getting a guard dog for your business? Do you want to develop a show dog to enter competitions?
Or do you just want to own a faithful companion, petite enough to be at ease in an apartment and calm enough to sit with your children and have fun? These are some concerns you need to think about as you look for the perfect type of dog.
How many people live in your home? Single person who works long hours you need to choose a breed of pet dog that can handle with a lot of alone time indoors perhaps pets that like toys and entertains himself.
For a family with small children a medium to large-size dog is a good choice because this type of pet dog is gentle by nature as well as patient with children. For them, their dog is like a toy your kids don't understand it 's a living; breathing being that can get hurt and become aggressive by rough housing.
There are dog breeds that are not patient with the bad behavior of your small children, but would be great with grown-up kids. A perfect match for older adults is a breed that needs to be low maintenance.
Another 2 types of dogs are those that shed a lot and those that don't. Shedding is a huge problem of people who have dogs. Dog fur clings to furniture, clothing as well as your guests who sit anywhere in the house. Dont be fooled by short haired dogs because they can shed, too. Classification of shedding can be grouped into barely sheds, seasonal only shedding or constant shedding.
Height and weight are considered when it comes to dog size. Smaller dogs weigh less than 10 pounds, medium dogs weigh 11-25 pounds, large dogs weigh 26-50 pounds and extra large dogs weight 51-80 pounds. There are also extremely large dogs like Mastiffs and St. Bernard that can reach up to 100-180 pounds. Now you see why size is also a big factor in choosing the right dog for you and your family.
Can your furniture stand that much dog? When picking a breed always keep in mind to decide based on the size the breed will grow to as an adult dog and not on the look of the puppy.
Always remember that big dogs are also big eaters. If you bring home a large dog like a Mastiff, you may need a second occupation just to pay for the food.
Care requirement is another thing to consider. Some dog breeds require extra grooming and care than other dog breeds. Dogs like poodles or show dogs may spend a little more time in grooming centers than you do. There are also dogs that need weekly grooming to keep their furs from tangles and to maintain good physical health. Take time to research about the dog that you want. Check the breeds character, size, and grooming requirements before you make any decision. Researching those important information will surely save you a lot of time and avoid any problem in taking care of the dog. Remember that its only fair to the dog you choose that you be ready for its basic needs, aside from giving them love and attention that only you and your family can give.
